Sprint has a crap network! The merger with sprint and nextell was about the dumbest move any corperation could have done. Nextell service runs on the slowest network known to man and sprint borrows verizon network to try to imporve…….. coverage!!! Sprint is coming out with a wireless network that is rumered to blow At&t’s 3g out of the water, downloading speeds up to 4mbs!!!! Same crapy network but faster downloading speeds!

The 8820 will, not only have the wi-fi, but also have the 2.0 stereo bluetooth. If you haven’t played around with any of the other black berry’s the 8800 series have by far the best reception between all of the blackberry models.

Damm today is the 24th, and still NO 8820, think you guys here at BGR, need to apply to some whoop ass to the liars making up these far fetched dates, or if your doing it on your own, pick something more realistic.

Once again talked to the sales rep today and her boss has NO idea and no one is mentioning the 8820 at the Rochester NY sales location.

Ok so the 8820 was supposed to be released on the 7th of august and then on the 13th or 14th…since I have not heard or seen anything new on blogs and forums I guess people are disappointed at all the guesses that turned out wrong), anyone has any idea when this phone is really coming out?

wow you guys have no lives nitpicking over every detail of the phone. i just ran across this website in search of info regarding the 8820. the blackberry has taken the sidekick’s place as the trendy cool device. it does email really well and has gotten good media capabilities. who cares if the browser isn’t 100% like a pc’s. use your portable laptop for intense web browsing. the blackberry is there for quick finds and fun txt and emailing. why do you have to determine wether the iphone or bberry is cooler. i have them both and they are both fun gadgets.

Any updates on the release date? My 8700 died this past week and I’m struggling with my old 7100. I don’t want to spend money on the 8800 if the 8820 is coming out in the next week.

On a side note I work for AT&T and can’t even get the date out of our wireless contacts but BGR always seems to have the info.

August 2nd now and still no word from AT&T confirming anything about the 8820. I have emailed them without any response of any kind.

August should have been the beginning of a new fiscal quarter so I was assuming this might by what they were waiting for. I’m not sure why else they would be holding back since there has already been production sent to the UK, it is technically available. I guess we will all have to wait around on the next rumored date of Sept. 7th, RIM did announce it would be release in Summer.. then again they might put in on the technically last day of summer.. that would be evil.

Cameron from what I have read and the way I took it that you should be able to connect to WiFi for data transmission, also IF the network has the support for it you should be able to make calls over it as well. I would suggest reading the press release from RIM and get with your campus tech / admins to see if they have the required protocols and such in place to take advantage of this to be sure.

So simply put, with all required things in place you should not technically have to have a carrier plan.

Concerning the WiFi

I’m considering getting this as my first smartphone and I’ll be on a large college campus that is entirely covered by wifi.

Would I even need a data plan since everywhere I’d be using my BB I’d have a wifi hotspot?

TJ, way to make things personal. Ipods are for music, video and photos not for everything the BB does. As of right now they have no active rumors about new BB browsers for 8820, thats my observation.

32 GB just sounds painful at the BB speed of navigating and fast forwarding media. I am a huge BB fan but people who want them to do everything will always be sorely disappointed. The market of course will grow but if RIM does not drastically change their OS then it will not be able to handle 32GB of anything very well. -yes thats my opinion. This comes from 4 months of using my 8800 and 3 years with 7290.

Last time i checked this was not just a BB website? and being a BB fan, im not sure what you are talking about with the “wrong place” comment, perhaps you dont see the kaiser and iphone stories and comments on the site.

I did not go personal i was just saying that i believed you were wrong in your assumptions of RIM glory.

and yes I am ranting as a matter of fact…

I have an Ipod that lasted maybe a year and the battery won’t keep a charge long enough to stay started up.

as far as the browser, maybe it won’t have a new one but maybe it will. unless you are a RIM Spokesperson thats all just your opinion.

what else do I want Ipods to do.. well lets see what else can a blackberry do.. exactly! oh and if the battery does go bad I have the option to change it.

The point is they are capable of 32GB of MicroSDHC, so there it is very possible and up to scientific development, along with advancements the price will lower and it will be more common place like all technologies. With video and audio content growing as it is it certainly would not be a waste of memory or money. I know you will be eating those words because it is inevitable that the market is going to grow as it does.

really I think you are in the wrong place for your way of thinking. Maybe you should get one of those phones that only has the mom and dad buttons on it. have a great day

it wont have a new browser TJ, and it wont have anything to make browsing any better than the existing berries.

your attack on ipods – they only play movies, music and show pictures, well what else do you want them to do. And im on my 3rd Year and have had zero battery issues, i went through 2 batteries in my BB 7290 in 2 years.

and you will never see 32GB in Blackberries as they are now, is would be a gigantic waste of money and memory IMO

Mainly, I’ve seen too many people in this topic say that the 8820 is only being released for WiFi whats the big deal. for me it certainly is. however that is not the only reason. What about the newer memory expansion from the limited 2GB MicroSD to the MicroSDHC (high capacity) which is said to be able to hold up to 32Gb and soon the market will have 8Gb cards this summer.

also I think with some third party effort the browser issue wouldn’t be an issue, it has been rumored that it will have an updated browser though.

anyway people spend more money on ipods that only play music, video, and show pictures… not to mention you can’t change batteries on those paper weights.. anyway going onto a different discussion all together.
