Is the HTC Kaiser coming to the US real soon?
Now that the so-called "Jesus Phone" has landed with AT&T, people have wondered if there is still a place in the world for the HTC Kaiser. According to one site, the answer is an unqualified "Yes."
They claim that the HTC Kaiser will be coming to AT&T as the 8925, keeping the same model number scheme as previous HTC Windows Mobile devices. For those who have been living under a rock, the 8925 will sport a sliding, tilting keypad, 3MP camera with auto-focus, and built-in GPS. Of course, it’ll take advantage of AT&T’s 3G network, and comes loaded with 256MB of ROM and 128MB of RAM.
Where current Windows Mobile 6 devices are finding that 64MB of RAM is quickly eaten up by the OS and memory leaks in applications, 128MB should be plenty. Further, the phone’s faster data and advanced features could lure away potential iPhone subscribers when they can finally see that there is a lot more value to be had for the money. Or not.No one ever said that the iPhone was a rational purchase.
So when can you find the 8925? "Supposedly the Cingular 8925 will be available in August 2007", but I’d recommend taking that date with a hefty pull on a salt lick. It’s unlikely AT&T would be willing to slow the momentum of the iPhone by launching the 8925 so close.

@ all the iPhone haters - yea well I mean 90% of those rich people’s kids and Apple fanboys enjoyed their iPhone. Wonder how many WM user would say that. And just FYI, some people actually work hard, VERY hard for their iPhones and are not givin everything on a silver platter.
P.S WM6 sux Apple FOREVER!!!
(Guess I am a fanboy but at least my phone doesnt suck

What I’d like to know is: When will VZW launch thier latest version of a 3G QWERTY? Seems to me they’ve been lagging WAY behind on the curve here.
I’m currently a VZW customer eligible for NE2, but this pending Kaiser release is really making me rethink my carrier loyalty… WAKE THE F*CK UP VERIZON!!

I have actually been deeper inside the iphone than many of its users have. I have used it for well over 10 hours in various AT&T stores because in two stores people have asked me to leave for spending so much time with it. I was seriously considering buying one, but then heard there was no 3G. If AT&T is forcing a data plan on me, it sure as hell better be 3G.
The phone is limited from the software. I can’t use songs as ringtones, but will (likely) have to buy them from itunes? Yeah, OK. I can’t send a text to multiple recipients? The whole platform is closed, and people have to finagle their software to fit the safari browser? No video camera. No thanks.
Seriously, how many people do you think eagerly unpacked their iphones and tried to assign their favorite song as a ringtone? I mean, “the best ipod ever” was key to the Jesusphone’s marketing ploy.
The list goes on and on. It lacks features that the Treo 650 (still one of the best smartphones on the market) included several years ago.
That’s really the bottom line. It lacks very elementary features. For all its intuitive…ness, if it doesn’t include very, very basic features, I don’t want one. No removable battery? WTF?
While WM isn’t the prettiest lass, once properly tuned, like any Windows machine, it is a very capable platform. And people need to realize that I don’t want to, nor have the desire to do every single thing on my phone I can do on my desktop. I don’t want to browse full websites on a small screen, no matter how much tapping or “pinching” may make it seem like it’s fun. MP3s. Email. IM. The occasional WAP site, NES emulator and movie. That’s all I need, and the 8525 does that better (and cheaper) than the iphone.
I think the most telling thing about apple and all of its nonsense is that only a very select few sets of headphones will actually fit in the iphone’s jack. They want people to walk around with their shitty, tell-tale white headphones to market their device.
I’ll take my Shure E4Gs and keep my phone in my pocket, thanks.

I think there’s actually a chance that they’ll leave that second camera on there… a very tiny one though. Video share calling has been launched, and phones like the CU500, CU575, A717 all have that rotating camera.
But then again, it’s not true video calling, so there really isn’t any use for the second one (if you’re thinking self portrait, why use a shitty VGA when you’ve got multiple megapixels on the other side?).
We’ll see.

I read this posting on Engadget Mobile site by user named:
ATTingular
I’ve played with a AT&T bound Kaiser roughly two months ago. It wasn’t branded, but it didn’t have the forward camera either. The HTC reps, who were the ones letting me mess with it (actually they gave it to my store manager, but they let me check it out as well) gave a fall time frame. I forget which month, but definitely not August.
And yes, it did have GPS and the reps bragged about it, so I would assume they were expecting it to make it to the final edition

No doubt this Kaiser is the most eagerly anticipated HTC phone so far.

Just came from my local AT&T store. Salesperson tells me that this morning they were informed that the release date is October 4. Will it really happen this time? We can only hope…
P.S. They did not have any 8525 in stock, not even on display. Better get the 8925 out…!!
