iMobimac provides DUN support for Macs and BlackBerrys
It used to be next to impossible for the Mac users amongst us to get the sort of Dial Up Networking support that many of our PC-using brethren have enjoyed for years. Jerry-rigged modem scripts and janky proxy solutions aside, Boot Camp/Parallels was our best bet for a viable on-the-go internet solution from our handsets. iMobimac hopes to change all that, at least for the ‘Berry toting crowd. While certainly not the OEM solution we’d like to see from RIM *Cough Cough,* it certainly appears to be a step in the right direction. Public information on this is a bit sparse at the moment, with no details on whether or not this will provide true USB tethering, or rely on the Bluetooth DUN protocol, but with 15 days left till the full launch it can’t hurt to throw your name in the hat. We’ve also been giving a first look at the software. As soon as we go through it, we’ll post our findings and let you know how it works. This should work with most, if not all, recent model BlackBerrys too. Hit the link for more details!

Why can’t RIM implement bluetooth properly? AFAIK, you can’t even do Sync, much less tethering unless you’re using Microsoft’s BT stack which only supports a handful of BT radios.
You mean iMobimac, right?
I’ve been using Pulse from BrainMurmers for almost a year now, http://brainmurmurs.com/products/pulse/index.php
The biggest downside to Pulse is that it requires you use a custom proxy server, I’ll be curious to see if iMobiMac does too.
Congrat mac users signs of BB love for you guys too.
I will check in here for a second and give what I have found using this, without releasing too much information as I am under a non-disclosure contract with them.
I have personally tested this and it actually does work, very well in fact.
I was able to test it successfully on a 7520 Nextel and a Verizon 8830 World Edition.
Working on a BES it actually moved a lot faster than what it did when I was running it on a BIS, but it still worked very well on a BIS as well.
I will say also, and I hope I don’t get too busted for this, but I do know there is a solution in the works for a MacApp loader for the BB’s also…So we may be seeing a lot of this company to come in the future!
RIM tends to license software for the mac crowd rather than build it. They just licensed software to sync the mac and the handheld. Prior to this it is usually up to the carrier to make it work with the BB anyway.
My unlocked 8300 teathers perfectly with my powerbook… why pay $$$ for a script?????
As the author of one of the so-called ‘Jerry rigged’ modem scripts, I’m a little puzzled at the tone of this article. How does making use of standard Bluetooth profiles via Apple’s PPP stack qualify as substandard? Bluetooth’s data rates are higher than any WAN data system deployed to date, and the DUN profile present in the latest firmware versions works quite well, assuming you have the proper plan from your carrier.
If people prefer to pay for something that’s built into their phone and OS, that’s their choice, of course. (Obviously, if you’ve got a 7xxx series or lack Bluetooth, your choices are limited.) And if carriers choose to not support or actively hamper their customers’ ability to tether without an additional plan, their customers should consider changing providers.
