$100 HD-DVD player?
It looks like the answer might be yes, though you’ll have a small window to take advantage of this deal. Toshiba could be poised to offer their HD-A2 player for the bargain basement price of $99. The catch? You’ll have from July 22nd to July 29th to take advantage of this crazy pricing. The deal will include 3 free HD-DVDs. Whoa. Keep in mind that this is just rumor for the time being, but promo material for the upcoming Home Media Expo trade show clearly indicates that the player will be available for this nominal fee. If you’ve been waiting to jump ship to HD media land for fear of breaking the bank, here’s your chance to join the high definition revolution.

Wasn’t there just some pie-chart released that shows Blu-Ray has a HUUUUUUGE lead in the high def DVD space with Sony and Disney both releasing Blu-Ray discs? If that chart was accurate, this may be Toshiba reading the writing on the wall and unloading their Betamax player on the masses. I still haven’t purchased either an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player, and I’m not going to, no matter how cheap they sell ‘em, until the movie studios and technology companies settle on a format, or dual-format players become the norm. But if this post is accurate, you maybe at least profit by breaking up the product and selling it on eBay.

While I doubt the show will be great if get to go (I doubt I will) I would make the effort to get one. But what with the price reduction of the ps3 I don’t know if I would even bother, although it is a great deal even if I do get a ps3.
@eJay ok you win but at least my post is of actual content ;-p.

For $99 I’d buy one. The pie charts are no good for predicting right now. Once the sales pick up then they’ll be worth something. At the moment the HiDef market is so tiny. It adorable watching HD and Bluray thump their chest proclaiming victory. Remember the cowboy and the roman from Night at the Museum -thats them and DVD is Gigantor
HiDef is nice, but why do I need either when my DVR can record any HiDef movie for pennies compared to price of the dueling bozos. For $99 I’d give it a try.
