Lack of Nintendo Wii’s may be even worse over the holidays

Think it’s difficult to find a Nintendo Wii now? Just wait until the holiday season. So says George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Nintendo of America, who said in an interview, "There is no guarantee that we are not going to have ‘out-of-stocks’ this holiday season. If you see one, buy it. Don’t assume that you can come back later and find one." While they’ve tried to find a happy balance between high-demand and actual accessibility, they have yet to be able to meet the demand on their surprise hit system. With competing consoles dropping their prices, the demand could lessen, but it’s tough to make a real prediction considering no one saw the Wii becoming as big of a hit as it has.

Can you tell me this - do people want it more because it isnt available?

Shouldn’t Nintendo have been able to make enough to at least satisfy the current demand?

Anyone want to sell theirs? :)

Great post now I gotta keep my eyes peeled!

Remember back in the day, when BGR had only news you COULDNT find anywhere else. Not that was common sense, on various news sites, or other blogs? I guess just BG was blogging back then. Ahh the good ole days…

Seriously, if nothing else that quote makes me (impulsive and) want to buy it. Is that Really N’s plan? Create a demand and an artificial scarcity? This is really messed up. And there doesn’t seem to any validation from any outside sources as to the reason why the wii is so scarce. makes me wonder if this really has been their plan all along.

Dang, you guys are rough on the BG today.

Although Greg was really nice to Nintendo, I wasn’t.

    They’re doing this on purpose.

Not earth shattering news but certainly gives credence to the long held suspicion Nintendo has alterior motives in the continually short supply of the Wii.

And the rumor of the Palm Foleo going on sale in August is news, even if most people (except Ed Hardy @ Brighthand) thing it is the dumbest idea in a long time.

Not so sure about the AOL news, I’ve never used them and won’t be getting a piece of the money they had to dish out.

Its not that we dont want to read BGR, its the fact that as BGR readers we have a standard of quality that is built upon the BG name. BGR is known for breaking news and inside scoops NO one has. Not the same stories these “bloggers” (not you BG) get from (quoting Hill) “The outdated tech section of CNN.com.”

You have to understand, the Nintendo statement IS news. They are again lying about, I mean, answering the question about when will Wii production meet demand.

Sorry it’s not an inside scoop but it’s still news.

Just like all the iPhone hoopla, if you’re not interested, don’t read the post or the comments. Find the news that interest you.

Even worse, why, according to your definition, would you waste time commenting on something you think isn’t worth posting about to begin with?

I don’t particularly care that T-Mobile is bringing My Faves to Germany so I didn’t read the post nor would I waste my time commenting on not caring about it.

I WISH they had some iPhone coverage. I wouldnt pass that up. But from a journalistic point of view. This news. S*CKS. Plain english. And last time I checked there wasnt a no moaning like a b***h policy so I will continue to moan like one until we get some quality news. I mean if your really that unintelligent that you dont know that Wii’s are hard to get just go to ANY and I mean ANY store and look on the shelves of the Wii section and they are raped. So just chill out and wait for some more news that I can “b***h” about…

Yea it’s pretty cool, I still prefer a PS3 or XBOX 360 ELITE to a Wii but they are fun until the games get too boring…any systems’ flaw.
