Remote Desktop for your iPhone!

Every now and then a 3rd party developer will come up with something that is so ingenious it makes you wonder why it wasn’t included out of the box. This iPhone Remote Desktop Client is one such invention. Developer Nate True has come up with a way to modify TightVNC’s open source VNC app to run on the iPhone. You would expect such a Frankenstein-esque creation to have some serious hiccups. Think again, Batman. This thing runs like butter. WebVNC as it’s called gives you unprecedented mobile access to your Windows desktop from the convenience of your iPhone. Once configured, you are free to use your desktop PC to your heart’s content, zooming, right/left clicking, entering text, and much more. It is, for all intents and purposes, a full featured mobile VNC client. The app works over EDGE and Wi-Fi, simply connecting to a local, or external IP address through iPhone’s Safari browser. The best part? It’s completely free. If this sounds like something you’d like to take for a spin, hit the link for the full details, and be sure to give Nate some much deserved support for his good work. Let us know what you think!

This looks promising. I assume this works on OSX and Linux as well. My question for security purposes is does it use encrypted authentication?

VNC apps have been available for windows mobile devices for years. The only “new” thing about this is that it designed for the over-priced, over-hyped “steve jobs phone”.

Look around! There are at least several good clients for Windows Mobile. They even build it (Terminal Services) into some phones (Treo WX)with the stock load. It interfaces FREE technology thats already built into Windows XP and Vista (Remote Desktop) and every server 2003 and later (Remote Desktop, Terminal Server).

Wake up, kid. This has been native to Windows mobile for years. And it doesn’t cost any $499 either. It’s free, native, and included with the OS.

Apple is wonderful, all right, but before you automatically dis another platform try to be a little informed.

Just shows how far a good marketing campaign will take you. I am looking to see if apple is supporting RDP (Terminal services) as we have been using on Windows mobile devices for years. It seems the answer is no, and therefore i’ll stick to the windows mobile platform, and leave these phones for the misinformed.

I’m looking for a VNC server that runs on the jailbroken iPhone and iPod touch. Is anyone working on this?

You might wonder why someone would wish for something like this. Many people need to be able to visualize and record the iPhone and iPod touch interface to develop tutorials, etc. The iPhone Simulator does not simulate the Apple apps or any app for which you do not have the source. Even mobile Safari, which is on the iPhone Sim, fails to behave like the real mobile Safari, especially in the area of video.
