Motorola SCPL Update
We wanted to dig a little deeper into the Motorola SCPL pictures we unleashed a couple weeks back. It seems as if the official internal codename is "Saipan". You are now free to try and think of why they named it that. Specs have not changed. For your viewing pleasure we’ve got some newer photos of the Motorola device — even comparison pics!

Im sry but this phone is plain ugly….. Motorola has done better with many of its new phones and i think this is just a disappointment. Also, why does the phone look like ti has ben used for 5 years. Surely the BoyGenius takes care of phone. I just dont get it.
Yeah, I am sure this phone won’t be horrible in the direct sunlight. You will probably go blind from the reflection or burn your retina.
Motorola needs to stop pushing these same features. They need to update their phones, not make a series and then release a RAZR2 slider, RAZR2 candybar, etc. Next, we will be seeing a V8 Maxx. I mean, it’s nice and all, but come on. Upgrade to a 3.2 MP camera at least.
BTW, the phone on the left looks like a ROKR E6.
Yes, it’s the left photo is “Motorola Rokr E6″.
I don’t think the right photo is “Motorola Scapel” because the real “Motorola Scapel” is targeted for 10 times the best seller more than “Motorola V3 Razr” (100 million units) and the very nice mobile ever.
I disappointed to “Boy Genius Report” un-confirm from other website / just confirm from “Engadget Mobile” confirm
Motorola usually has their “internal” project names as worldwide cities, thus the name “Saipan”.
Keep in mind the new MOTORIZR V8 was code named “Espoo”. I wonder why?
I for one want to see these new phones IN STORES FOR SALE. getting tired of reading and not seeing.. Ive tried be to loyal to moto but it seems all they have launched this year is pictures of phones.. nice 2007 line up you got moto. maybe we will see 2 of them in the us by 2008 when nobody cares anymore and they have moved on elsewhere.
The one of the left is the e690i. It runs a Linux OS and and couple of applications have been ported for the phone. (Mplayer, NESEmluator, DosBox, etc…)
if you noticed, motorola gsm phone code names are all islands. i doubt saipan itself had any meaning beyond this.
Seems might smudgy to me…
Shiny != good
They do, (SLVR, RIZR, KRZR, ect); they just do not want to release a phone with a name like “RAZR Slider” That would KILL sales. Anyway, they wanted to stick with the whole 4-letter deal.
