Creative charging $10 for driver updates
As if Vista users didn’t have enough issues already, what with bugs, granting permission to everything you want to run, and bad resource management…now they have to pay for driver updates? That’s what Creative has decided, charging $9.99 for Vista driver updates for its Audigy sound cards, particularly if you want to access the EAX sound effects. Most are baffled as to why anyone would charge extra for something that its competition (and the industry, for that matter) has always absorbed and offered for free. We would fall under that category, too.

Talk about ‘Creative’ accounting!! When and where will it all end?

Why should anyone have to pay for drivers?
I hope this isn’t the start of a trend.
Fair play to Creative:
There is FREE Vista driver for Audigy:

Creative charges $10 for Alchemy – this is software not a driver update. Without that Audigy works as good as any other sound card in Vista.
ALchemy is not a driver, it is some sort of emulator software to allow for hardware acceleration Direct X sound aborted in Vista.
