AT&T offers free Wi-Fi hotspot access
For their broadband customers, that is. While not quite the "Free internet for everyone!" initiative that we’d like to see, it is certainly a boon to anyone with a Pro, Elite, or FastAccess account. But wait, there’s more! AT&T phone customers without broadband access will be able to sign up for a low monthly fee of $1.99. The rest of the world is free to jump on as well, though they’ll have to pony up $7.99/day for the privileged. Looks like it pays to be affiliated. Those that do sign on will be granted unlimited access to over 10,000 hotspots. While nowhere near as exhaustive as T-Mobile Hotspot coverage, AT&T has a decent footprint, and you can’t beat free, can we?

That is a good news. I initially thought that it was limited to those with the pc card broadband access. Good to know that those with DSL can use the hotspots.
If their network existed in Boston or if it applied to mobile customers I might be interested. Good those that are.
“AT&T phone customers without broadband access will be able to sign up for a low monthly fee of $1.99.”
so it’s only for AT&T landline not wireless customers? That sucks, they aren’t around here.
I was thinking “Oh Cool, They have hotspot access like T-mobile does” Then I realized the stipulation is that you need to one of their ISP customers. Plus, checking their coverage map, the nearest hotspots to me are all at McDonalds. which I don’t make a habit of eating at.
lame…
Im a DSL customer but all their hotspots are McDonald’s, oh well i guess thats better than nothing.
not that I go to these places often but AT&T wifi is also in many hotels, airports, the UPS store, and Barnes & Noble (like that place)

wouldn’t mind using at the bookstore, but refuse to pay $20/mo plus a 1 year commitment
Yippee, if only I was 80yrs old and spent my life at McDonalds.
this is sad. att is want’s to be TMO aksio the hot sopt service for dsl customers dos not make a lick of senes you might as well go outand get a cable modem> on the other hand this might force more competition with tmo and force it to upgrade it’s entire net to HSDPA
