Visual Voicemail for the rest of us

Are you a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile user that can’t sleep at night, lusting after the Visual Voicemail feature that has been so highly touted on the iPhone? Lay awake no more, friends, as SimulSays has a solution. The new software brings visual voicemail to a variety of Windows Mobile handsets, as well as newer model BlackBerrys including the BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry 8800, and the BlackBerry Pearl. The service works just as described, providing you with a list of voicemail messages by time, caller, and length. There’s even an option to have your messages transcribed and sent to your email inbox. Pretty slick! Now for the bad news. It only works on T-Mobile and AT&T. Sorry, CDMA crowd. Consider this yet another reason to dip your feet into the GSM waters. Hit the link to try out the beta software.

I have been using this on my Curve for just over a week - FANTASTIC. So far, I highly recommend it….big time saver for me, and adds to the convenience of my Curve.

It doesn’t show WM support anywhere…

Also, does this use OTA data charges at all? How does it store messages?

I have used it for a bit and well I uninstalled it. Here are a few things to note:
It works on a 8700c as long as you have the 4.2 OS.
It does work and well, sometime the delivery delay is much higher than a person would want.
Volume is low when listen to voicemails (could be my phone, could be service, I’m not sure)
It forwards the calls to their voicemail, which in turn charges you for forwarded minutes.
Unless you get a lot of calls and even more voicemails this won’t do much good for you.
You can hear voicemails in three different places: Your phone application, their voicemail (calling in) and on the web.
You need to register to get access to the service.
You can download and send voicemails to others via their site.

As I said I uninstalled the program but it was useful but not for me. Hope the rest of you enjoy.

I am really thinking about taking that dip into GSM. CDMA is falling to far behind even though I think their infrastructure is better.

I’m on an ATT blackberry 8800, and it keeps giving me an error message saying “unable to make a network connection. If the problem persists, confirm with your carrier that WAP data services are enabled for your account.” I have an unlimited data plan, does anyone know how to fix this?

I don’t know where everyone is seeing WM support…this comes straight from the website:

SimulSays is available for the following phones:

    Blackberry 8800 Cingular
    Blackberry 8800 T-Mobile
    Blackberry Pearl Cingular
    Blackberry Pearl T-Mobile

And, sadly, that’s I it says.

I have been using the service for the past two weeks and I love it. I agree about the simulscribe part being awful. Not worth paying for that option. Still have not tried the option to have all voicemail forwarded to the service. If anyone else has please comment.

So far I like this feature. How can you change the annoying voicemail message? Everytime I press 1 to save recorded greeting, the system does not save it.

ps: I hate the voice of this girl saying “your message has been transcribe by simulsays.com.”

Man, I sure wish this thing would work on my htc tytn! I emailed simulsays and they stated “at this time we are not looking to support your phone, please keep checking our website for posible updates.” Is anyone else that has a PPC (not smartphone) having any luck. Their site states that the Windows Mobile cab is only for smartphones.

About two months ago I used this program on my 8800. I uninstalled it after about 3 days. The simulscribe thing was terrible, as has been mentioned here, and I didn’t find the visual vm to be all that great. Sometimes I would miss a call or be unable to pick up, and it would take 20 or more minutes for the message to become available for listening. I didn’t really like it.

I was also slightly annoyed when — 2 weeks after I uninstalled it — I got an email from SimulSays asking for my credit card info. When I initially signed up for it and downloaded it, there was absolutely no mention of a credit card being required. I explained to them that had I been asked for that info there’s no way I would’ve used the service at all. They were understanding and left me alone, but I still felt that it was a quasi-sneaky tactic. Anyway, I didn’t like this thing. Maybe you will.

I just installed this software and I love it. But that is with one exception, I can’t run Opera Mini with simulsays. After installing simulsays I get a connection error whenever I try to browse with Opera be it Opera 3.x or the 4.x Beta. Anyone figured out a way around this yet?
