iPhone data plan dubbed the iPlan?

No, we’re not kidding. Although iPlan might simply be used internally to refer to the Apple iPhone data plan, this streak of info came from a pretty high up source of ours, and it looks to be accurate. The iPhone data plan will be around $34.99-$44.99 and feature unlimited data, and either 2000 text messages, or unlimited text messages (we still have not confirmed which, but unlimited text messages would be awesome). For anyone trying to snuff the FedEx driver on his way in to deliver the iPhones, be prepared, because all FedEx drivers are said to be assigned, and delivering to stores in teams. Well, what if we raid the stockroom the night before, we’ll end up with a bunch of iPhones right? Wrong. Apple’s cleverness was revealed when they announced the 6:00PM release time to make sure stores would have just got shipments, and couldn’t sell them earlier. Are we putting all our faith in FedEx? Everything appears so as FedEx will be shipped the iPhones on Tuesday, or Wednesday, and the iPhones will sit in FedEx local sort facilities and hubs until Friday, where they will then be delivered.

Well I talked to a ATT sales rep on the way home from work today. I’ve been a long time cing/ATT customer and ask the rep if I would need to get a new ATT sim card if i upgraded to the iphone. She said that they would be coming with their own and that they would have to be activated (but has no idea how that would take place). She said that when you activate it you will tie it to your current number.

Did anyone hear what Apple might charge for its Bluetooth headset? I heard $120. Thats crazy! I know, but my father got a verizon bluetooth headset that works excellent for free with his phone!! I think the price for the data plan is good, thats the usual price. I can not wait to give the iPhone a chance, I think it is going to be revolutionary!!! No other phone has a touch screen or multi touch, except for the LG Prada which is not even available in the U.S. and is more then the iPhone, thats a plus to a phone. The only thing I would like the iPhone to have is an iChat application or AIM, but you can’t get everything and I am fine with what it has!

OK….Money where your mouth is time, The Boy Genius.
I’ve got $100 that says my source on this is better than yours. My source says the AT&T data plan is going to be…..
Wait for it….
*$20.00/month unlimited.
Wanna take that bet?

approx. $40.00 data plan on top of a $40.00 voice cost? No way. If either Apple of AT&T had any faith in their service they’d let the buy chose any option they have - no data, data, or hybrid.
If they try to milk this, it WILL flop.
I want WiFi on my phone and close integration with my computer (I have a 17″ Powerbook G4). While visual voice mail and SMS is fine, I want the option of paying for it or not.
If they try to ram a data plan down my throat, I’ll just bag Cingular and go back to Verizon. Right now I am a Verizon switcher to a Cingular pay-as-you go plan because I was waiting for the iPhone. There is just no way I am going to pay $80.00 for a phone with spotty coverage and dial-up speed data access.
It isn’t the money - its the value. It just is not there at $80.00 a month.

When will you creeps get the picture? The iPhone is NOT FOR THE MASSES. It’s a smartphone (and waaaay beyond). This phone and its iPlan are NOT FOR PEOPLE FOR WHOM $80/MO IS A DEALBREAKER.
Some of you people are in desperate need of talking with any of the millions of people who already own smartphones. I think you’ll find that their monthly costs routinely exceed $100, and the phone usually cost them a minimum of $400.
IN ITS MARKETPLACE, the iPhone is roughly equally priced. Seem high to you? That’s an indication that you either don’t really need this product, or need a new career. This is a phone for PEOPLE WITH MONEY, EDUCATION AND TASTE.
That leaves out most of you.

Exactly. What’s up with the whine bar folks? I never expected geeks at gadget central to be afraid to piny up the cash for the beloved iphone. You guys do realize that the purchase of an iphone is OPTIONAL, right? I’m just checking because this line of silly talk is like a bunch of sonata drivers debating the value and cost of a lexus. Get real people. The iphone is not being marketed to budget-minded middle-class families…or any other group minding their pennies. The iphone will be owned by people who also bought $350k one bedroom condos in downtown Indianapolis….trust me….there’s tons of them. 75% of the people in your local scooter riders club will be posted up at the Cingular shop by 4pm. Anyone who owns Mac merch knows it ain’t cheap. If you’re holding out for a price drop, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. Even Sprint’s PPC6700 didn’t drop from $499 (unless you caught one random blue moon net special)until the new 6800 model came out last week. Now it’s at $399.

I agree with Chaz. Get over the pricing issue… Stop complaining and continue using your Sidekicks like the budget consumers that you are.

It doesn’t leave me out pm,chas_m, I don’t mean to boast but i have the money to afford the iPhone and the plans. $80 to me is cheap, my bill now is $80. I just gotta switch which is the down side, $200 to break a contract

I mean if people don’t want it don’t buy it! I’m a 20 year old in tech support and I just want it because its an interesting phone. I mean a data plan at $40 is not crazy talk. Esp. since at&t had to rework their system for “visual voicemail”, ok so I don’t think its a revolutionary feature, but part of the $40 is prob for that too. Anyways if you think about everything it makes sense, full price ipod + wifi internet device + touch screen cell phone = 499 or 599 easy. I’m excited about trying out the touchscreen keyboard, it makes sense that every app needs a diff keyboard or type of control. It’s time to quit worrying about little things and we need to start moving forward technologically instead of just talking about it, thanks apple.

J. Sun I agree with you 100%, dont want it dont buy it! and it is revolutionary with all those things it has! it is going to be the best

4 real! This whole gripefest is “much ado about nothing”. I have a box full of old obsolete PDA phones all bought at $599+or- $50. For those who think it’s too pricey, you should just keep it moving. Or you can wait for the knockoffs. Or better yet, jump on Sprint’s i-wanna-be-phone (Upstage). That’s pretty low dollar. We all have stuff we’re willihg to pay top dollar for.
Look at the cost of cigarettes (lives or dollars, take your pick)! But it doesn’t seem like many people are jumping on the smoking cessation wagon. Just think of this a healthier an investment.

Dude - you don’t know me but i wouldn’t say something like that if it weren’t true.
I’ve used it off and on for the past couple of days.

Knowing that someone else has played with the iphone is about as satisfying as watching a gatorade commercial. It’s not gonna quench your thirst until you drink it yourself.

“nice, how is it?”
Everything everyone says it is.
The EDGE network really does suck though.

That slow EDGE network is my main issue. Sprint’s 3g is killing the EDGE on speed. I’m having a hard time chosing to switch because of it.
My only other beef…..practically everyone I know is on Sprint. Does ATT offer an unlimited minutes voice plan?

To Shawn King: It seems that you may have some inside info. So is the data plan really gonna be $20 for unlimited data? I sure hope that you are not pulling our legs. Can you let us in on more info? Thanks.

This is a bunch of crap, delivering in teams, thats quite a joke we barely have enough bodies to deliver what we handle on a regular basis and considering the amount of stores that are in any one city…it would be impossible I dont know where they got that from but not true!!! (I work for Fed-EX) the only way that would be even feasible would be a Saturday release date like they did for the Harry Potter books a few years back, when they were guaranteed delivery the day it was released…

I have the same problem you do. The people I talk to most are on Sprint. We have all discussed if we ever change we all have to change together. The iPhone will have no bearing on that. With EV-DO Rev A on the horizon and no hard date/facts for 3G on AT&T it makes ithard to leave.
