AT&T iPhone launch deets: crowd control

Let’s say you work at an AT&T store somewhere as a sales rep. How are you ever going to combat those unruly, apple-loving, crazed citizens on June 29th? One word. Stanchions. You know, the stuff they line up on the sides of red carpets? But Diddy ain’t comin’ through, just regular people trying to get their iPhone fix. We told you about all AT&T stores closing at 4:30PM, and reopening at 6:00PM, and now it is confirmed in the this very document once again. One more confirmation from the leaked doc, is that AT&T stores should "inform landlords in all locations (except enclosed malls) that your store hours will be extended until 10:00PM on Friday, June 29th." There is also an extremely cheesy mock conversation with what stores should tell their landlords to try and con them to let them stay open late. Well, have fun guys. Apple has made it so every single person in America can drop by an AT&T store after normal business hours and pick an iPhone up right there. What about inventory? It has been rumored that all AT&T stores are receiving between 100-250 handsets in the first initial shipment. But those will be gone by 6:02PM. Hit the documents below!

Sample Dialogue [PDF link]

Did anyone else notice that on the example dialog PDF that ATT is extremely Sexist in the first sentence? “Good morning Mr. Landlord”…. I only say this because my mother is a landlord at several locations (residential though)…

i think only americans are so blind to see that the iphone is just a low-tech phone device (but considerably hi-tech for the americans) integrated into an ipod. for us in asia, the iphone is already considered obselete on paper… no 3G (hello 2007!), no mobile tv, no gps… the list goes on. it’s got this hype in the usa like iphone is god, wake up guys, mobile phone technology in the usa is behind asia by at least 10 years.

Will I be able to make a song stored on my iPhone a ring tone for a specific contact? I just watched the intro video and it didn’t mention it. Any one know??

AT&T employees are getting concerned because they work on commissions and they still have no idea how they’re getting paid. If no commission is being paid to the at&t sales reps don’t expect great service!

Yeahhh, they’re going to need crowd control after word spreads that you can’t get one without an obscene deposit (we’re talking approximately 400 dollars here) and about as much for the phone itself.
On the topic of less-than-helpful AT&T staff, they’re already pissed off about the iphone. Corporate’s told ‘em that if they’ve got an iphone before/on/around release and can’t produce a receipt on the spot they’re fired. No questions asked. So yeah, they’re already a bit frustrated, but it’s probably not a huge deal considering you’ll have to practically take out a loan to afford the damn thing anyway.
To Paul, most Americans realize that Asia’s phones are of better quality, though to be fair that’s really Japan and Singapore for the most part, and hardly a significant chunk of Asia, at least in terms of production. And really, who cares? It’s a damn phone. I could care less if the thing summons leer jets and has a 28 megapixel camera. IMHO many areas of Asia need to focus on fixing some of their ass-backwards socio-political and socio-economical practices instead of focusing on owning cell phones that double over as giant fighting robots.

Does anyone know if Comvu has ported PocketCaster to the iPhone? That would be a real winning combination.
When I spoke to one of their staff at a recent trade show, they claimed to have Linux builds of there mobile broadcasting software working on other Linux phones.

to sigma i don’t blame u for being ignorant, you seem to be an american. when i say asia, i meant asia, not just japan and singapore, you need to revisit earth. so-call political and social issues that you are referring to must be the lowdown you get from cnn (yet another arrogant and ignorant source of supply, yeah its american), open your eyes, see the world. you obviously are clueless like a door knob. again i dont blame you, its understood.
