BlackBerry Pearl 2 “Komet” reveals itself

I guess we shouldn’t expect a review unit from RIM, right? The BlackBerry Pearl 2 or "Komet" (internal codename) has secretly whispered some fantastic specs and features in our ear today. Some earth-shattering BlackBerry Pearl 2 new features revealed? We could start off with the external MicroSD card slot, or the stereo Bluetooth, but that’s not that interesting to most. The really interesting, and juicy details, start now! The BlackBerry Pearl 2,or Komet, or 8110, or 8120, or 8130 will feature a 3.2 megapixel camera. The difference with this camera, as reported to us, is that it will be used horizontally. Just like other high end camera phones. The colors we reported here first were pretty much spot on; metallic red, blue, gold, and black. In addition to the new camera, the P2 will include Windows Media DRM & MTP support. Also look for motion lock, and a built-in 3.5 mm headset jack just like the BlackBerry Curve. For all you freaks out there who love to hear yourself speak, the Voice Notes application has been enhanced and given a complete makeover; it will be housed as a component within the "Media" application (now up to five multimedia applications) and allow you to save all of your recordings and play them back upon command from your new collection of self-therapy sessions. Oh yeah, RIM is planning a mega huge marketing initiative to launch the Pearl 2. We have a fantastic rundown of the features and specs so make sure you check them out, after the break!

  • 3.2 megapixel camera
  • Flash improvement and 6x digital zoom
  • 3.5 mm Headset Jack
  • External MicroSD slot

I’ve had AT&T for years after having Verizon. Honestly, I have to say that I’ve never had a problem with AT&T signal quality when I’ve had a good phone.. and I travel a lot. Never had a problem with Verizon either.

I always read people harshing AT&T, but I’ve been a happy customer for many years and often have signal when others do not. Its a combination of the network AND the phone folks. And they get all the newest shiny toys.

I was in the o2 store in London today and my friend that works there said the Pearl 2 will becoming out in November. He was told this by a blackberry exec yesterday. Phone looks real good. Im due for my upgrade but think I might wait for the Pearl 2. The 8800 I think is a bit too big and been told the Curve is like a toy compared to the 8800. I’ll see.

Just wanted to through in my $.02 with the comment on Cingular coverage… As always, your milage may vary, but for me I’ve been an AT&T Customer forever and had very good coverage, and now that Cingular merged with AT&T my coverage is even better.. (Dare I say perfect?). I’m not sure if there are just a ton of cell towers from both companies here in the San Francisco Bay Area or what but I get perfect reception with my Pearl everywhere in the Bay Area..

I’m getting it! I’m waiting! I don’t care what it DOESN’T have, I’m just happy the camera quality has improved tremendously. I own the Pearl (8100). I questioned a T-Mobile Corporate Store manager. He (reluctantly) told me they’re not coming until February, 2008. I was on my way to buy the Curve today, but this is definitely worth the wait!!!!

regarding the AT&T release of the Pearl 2, I’ve learned from reading various other forums, that it will be released Thanksgiving. Can’t confirm, but I’m definitely gonna sneak in the store to play with it. That should hold me over until the T-Mobile’s release! Hope this helps, Jen.

I am pretty sure that ATT will get both of these phones, we already have the BB 8310 comes in dark grey and candy apple red. Havn’t heard about the Pearl 2 yet, they have wifi, and ATT does do home wifi as well. Cool stuff.

Okay, so I’ve been with Alltel since ‘99, & I don’t plan to change that because I love everything about them….except for the phones. I think it’s well know that they’re the last to get all the awsome phones, if they ever do at all! While this problem has greatly improved over the last couple of years, it’s not resolved. So my question is, WILL Alltel get the Pearl 2? & if they do, which color option(s) will they have (b/c they’re still having MAJOR problems in this department!!)? Thanks for your input!

If you want GPS on the phone why not just get it through Garmin. They have an application available just for smart phones that will give you great navigation options as if you actually owned one of their auto units. See for yourself http://www8.garmin.com/mobile/mobilext/

Why do you need a gps in your phone? Google maps work fine and are free. GPS needs to be on a visable screen, bigger than any phone on market.
