Movie Studios fear Apple TV

If you think back far enough, you may be able to remember a time before the iPod, and iTunes. The days when one had to scour the Internet via something like Napster and download everything illegally. But now that iTunes is here, you can fill up those iPods as fast as you can dump .99 cents into a track. The days of the $13 CD are coming to an end thanks to Apple, and there’s a chance that Apple TV will do the same to the DVD industry, much to the dismay of major movie studios. Apple had no issue with selling songs for .99 cents a piece while their hardware margins continued to be so high. Provided that they make movie studios feel relatively comfortable about doing it, like they did the music industry, DVD content could start finding its way to more and more devices via products like Apple TV, making DVD discs coaster counterparts of the CD. Of course, this doesn’t factor in the lure of a NexGen DVD format on 110 inches of 1080p deliciousness. But, I don’t imagine that’s a large portion of the average consumer.

I agree that the AppleTV has alot of potential if apple can sign up these movie companies, this has always been there plan as it was with iPods. I do find it useless to write a story that restates apple’s goals again, and especially saying “Movie Studio’s Fear AppleTV” I mean as long as they get paid I dont see how they would fear it, I mean it removes the need for stamping all these disks and you know any deal they sign with apple will be beneficial to both parties.

So really if you have some source for your story lets hear about it, otherwise your just writing a repetitive story that has very little basis. Sorry dont like to bash any writer but this one is a waste.

With music, there was a big chance when people could buy only one song rather than an entire album through sites like iTunes. However, that doesn’t correlate well with movies. It will be interesting to see how things shake out.

If Apple as a whole manages to build a decent video backbone with major movie studios we will see the dvd, including HD DVD, go the way of dvd right now. As far as content they will need to learn to deliver all features as well as those extras.
