Kodak wants to kill the flash
A camera without a flash? That’s crazy talk. Kodak seems to think otherwise, however. They’re developing a new generation of digital camera sensors, sensitive enough to eliminate the need for artificial illumination. Current sensors use 2 parts green pixels, 1 part blue, and 1 part red pixels to sense light. The new process introduces a number of clear pixels that increase the overall light sensitivity. Kodak patented this technology a whole back, but is just now moving towards developing a working prototype. This technology should find its way into camera phones within the next year or so, and could lead to a new generation of phone cameras that actually take decent low light photographs.
