Apple iPhone launch deets

Have you been sitting at home alone, trying to figure out what the heck is going to happen June 29th? Should you camp out in the store and then hijack the FedEx delivery guy? Probably not. But we do have some exciting bits of information surrounding the day the iPhone will be released. All AT&T stores will be closing at around 4:30PM on the 29th. Everybody will be kicked out of the store, which will then reopen at 6PM for the sale of the Apple iPhone. In addition to closing at 4:30PM, AT&T stores will be staying open late. We’ve heard up until 12AM. So now you know your attack plan, but what exactly are they doing when they rush us out the door at 4:30PM? Well, they’re expecting the iPhone shipments to hit stores around 4-6PM that day. Make no mistake about it, this was Apple’s genius shipping plan, to make sure devices were not sold early before the release date. Remember the Apple iPhone display from a little while back? That will also be setup in the 4:30PM-6:00PM time frame. Ok, we know when it’s coming, how late the stores are open till, but what else? Well, besides the iPhone, expect a number of accessories to be available at launch. Some of these should include a car charger, extra wall charger, carrying case, and possibly even Apple’s Bluetooth headset. Good luck.

The only thing that can go wrong is employees balking at the idea of staying late to handle the sales.

While being there late on Friday, some of those employees will have to come back Saturday morning to open the stores. So expect a shortage of people Saturday morning (even if the phone is sold out, it’ll still be busy).

We even arranged a restaurant that is next to us to stay open until at least 9:30 (they usually close at 8pm).

any clues as to what the pricing of the data plan for the iPhone will be?

I dont buy this $30 a month rumor. iPhone will be using 10x more data compared to any other smartphone out there. I dont think att will let us off that easy. They are not that stupid.

Has anyone heard or thought of that this June 29th version 1.0 [2.5 G] launch could lay the ground work for a version 2.0 [3 G] post- Thanksgiving launch on Friday, Nov. 23d?? And would someone wait 5 months…?

    Comments please…

@ Molly – I hope that we can just walk in on launch day and buy one. I really don’t want to get locked up for a cell phone. Hopefully Apple has it together which they should. I hate people who camp out. They are ridiculious.

    (@bye_bye_jack – comments? ;) )

Ohh a little tip to Curve owners. Since you hopefully purchased the curve the first day you can bring home the iphone for a day, try it out, then if you don’t like it bring it back or the curve back depending if you like it. ;)

Over at Appleinsider, it says Fed Ex will be delivering the phones between 430 and 6. The stores will also be setting up the iPhone displays during that time…

Plus, it’ll let the media be at the stores to boost the media coverage.

The cops will be there too for crowd control…

Well my local AT&T Company store, is located inside the local Giant supermarket. They may shoo away potential customers, but they can not stop someone from walking up to the counter/display case taking a look. You have to walk past the AT&T Company store [they make a big point to say they are a COMPANY STORE] after you check out your own groceries.

Do not think the cops will be involved.

#1 Waste of tax payers money
#2 Never used cops for any other product launch

We’ve already contacted the police dept (as have most stores in our area) about having at least one officer present. They told us they wouldn’t mind having one there just in case. Better safe then sorry.

    @Galvatron -

Not really, but no one knows exactly how many phones we’re gonna get, or how many people are going to show up. Everyone remembers what happened during the PS2 and xbox launches. Hopefully that will be avoided. AT&T has never really had this kind of hype for a phone launch before.

I may have to buy one, just to get it out of my system and play with it! Keeping it will depend on how good the virtual keyboard is. I still don’t know if it will be enough to keep my Curve in the draw. Ahh the fun of new gadgets hittin.
Like Christmas in the Summer for us!!!
