AT&T Apple iPhone internal talking points
.jpg)
With the ever-looming release date approaching every day, it would be great to know exactly what our ever-so-informed-and-trusted AT&T reps are hearing. Take a look at the latest talking points memo that we got a hold of. A breif recap below is followed by the full doc!
- "AT&T and Apple have formed a multi-year exclusive partnership, leveraging the strengths of both companies, to create revolutionary new wireless products." Notice that they used products, refering to more than one. The document goes on to say that, "the first of these products is the iPhone, an innovative wireless phone combining the reliability of the AT&T network and the simplicity and functionality of an iPod." Another confirmation of more devices to come.
- AT&T will also give you "access to MyAccount via the device and the iTunes site, allowing customers complete ability to manage their AT&T service". It looks like they are definitely trying to integrate everything as seemlessly as possible which in the end should make for a much more pleasurable experience for the consumer.

Who can purchase the iPhone? "New and existing customers can purchase iPhone in June 2007." But are there any restrictions on who can buy one? From what we can tell, you must have a "qualified service plan" to purchase one. Is this just an existing plan that you will need to have or will a brand new plan specifically for the iPhone be created?
-
A little further down in the document we come across this excerpt, "details on the qualified service plans will be made available nearer to the launch date (June 2007)."
So there ya have it. New and existing customers will be able to buy the iPhone, yet they must have or add a "qualified" service plan in order to do so. Apple and AT&T will be launching multiple products together, and hugging each other as closely as possible to integrate the iPhone into both brands systems.

jobs presentation is impressive..but how often will users actually be on a wifi network..will everytihng work as easily and quickly the 90% of the time users are not using wifi?
everyone talks about battery and storage limitations..my biggest concern is not being able to sync with my outlook calendar at work and not getting work emails like i get on my bb..thoughts?

this is no bb or even a business phone. If you need it for business email then as usual skip apple…you said “how often will the users be on WiFi” haha very often, Wifi is everywhere itsk confusingly bouncing into your non-wifi phone right now.

This phone will really be impressive if they ensure that you can sync with other email clients besides outlook. The more they support the better. My guess is that you will see another phone in the not too distant future from apple with increase capacities in battery and storage…since they (AT&T and Apple) are going to announce multiple products in the future. Just my guess with no inside knowledge.

My biggest worry is about the supply side of the launch. While Apple has never had a problem with the supply side at a launch (that I can remember) I have a feeling this is going to be a camping out type of episode. I know some people have said supply WONT be a issue but speaking with local AT&T stores who say they are only getting 15 if there lucky on launch day and the people on the pre order lists (even though AT&T doesnt allow them) being called first I dont see how even IF you camp out like a moron how it will be possible to get your hands on one. I cant recall the couple business magazines and blogs that said there will be a supply issue at launch also. I am certainly not camping out to give Apple & AT&T $600 + 2 years worth of service worth of my money. I want it ordered nice and comfortable. I hate these camping lines and stuff remember when you could just buy stuff on release date? Comments anyone?

How will an AT&T account be required if one buys an iPhone at the Apple store? Just watch this gadget will only increase the hiatus to iMac’s, iBooks, etc for the home use. I will have a Dell work laptop, Dell work PC, and an iMac at home…bets of all worlds.

Just called my local AT&T store and asked about a contact list or waiting list. Nada for both. It’s good that they are following the rules set out by Apple and Corporate. Hopefully I’ll snag an iPhone on launch day.

@ Unseen - Your lucky every store around here has a list that is over like 20-25 people long.

@ eJay- They’re taking reserves? I thought they wont allowed to do that.

@ejay I do remember that feeling and that is why I won’t do it for any product.
As for the wifi, if ATT is planning on releasing a hot-spot like service than it will be useful other wise better luck next time. Full system integration is great but not much use for ATT acount access, iTunes that will be a different story. Lets just wait for an actual release run. I happily will not be getting one right now, signs of future product releases are nice iPhone v.2 with 3G looks like a good deal. So I hope they release these other products sooner, just as they do for the iPod.

The iPhone is clearly the coolest phone to come along since the invention of the non-bag format cellphone, but I just don’t like Cingular or AT&T service!!!
@tiaBia It is pushing the limits but man come on the bag phone was the coolest. LOL
Any way for the idea of v.2 they have already hinted that it will be at least 3G. I don’t know about the sim, that is going to be interesting. They might just have a slot to slide them into, I don’t know how much of that is also true never held one. So let wait.. The longer we wait the better it will be right….

Tia, that is the first time I think I have heard anyone complain about At&T/Cingy service.

The longer we wait the better and hopefully the cheaper….lol.

That’s cool I guess. I’m very happy with the Curve and I’ll just wait for the second gen since I know that the first gen will have some consumers complaining about this. The price is effin ridiculous yo

@ Tech Teen - Yea they are taking reserves even though there policy states they are not allowed to. Its a load of crap. Maybe with any luck I can order from Apple’s website. I just dont know if im making the right decision. I have a Blackberry Curve but I have been waiting for the iPhone for a LONG LONG time. Decisions, decisions…
Permalink | Reply
@ejay if you don’t want the curve I can take it off your hands. I would rather wait for v2 of the IPhone or the 8820, maybe even the 9xxx that BG is holding out on us.

Do not understand if you all have just purchased Curve’s why would you put down another load of money for the iPhone so soon. Seems like a waste of $$$$.
