aside from screen tapping, this already happens with all cellphones.. especially the razr series.. and they sell like crazy. Plus if you’re worried about ear goo, perhaps you should look into Q-Tips, and perhaps schedule a doctor appointment.

I’m not too crazy about the glossy look. Imagine tapping the screen, pressing keys, and using the phone. After an hour of use it’ll be covered in fingerprints, ear goo, and skin oil…yyuuuckkkkk…You’ll spend better than 1/2 your time cleaning the foolish thing.

I’m a former Cingular Asisstant Manager (3 years ago). At that time, you COULD NOT re-up for another 2 years to get a new phone. I am still a Cingular customer, and when the iPhone was announced i checked my “upgrade eligibility” and the website said I still had a few months to go. So at that time there was nothing i could do.
Im pretty sure that if you went in today, got a new contract (with a curve) and in 2 months you wanted to re-up, you would get denied. Because at that point your ETF would still be the same, and AT&T would lose money due to the subsidized phones you recieved. However, with GSM phones, you can always buy a new phone at retail price any time you want (ebay, etc), just swap sim cards.

With Verizon, I was told that you could not re-up your deal for another 2 years to get a phone at contract price. I’m now switching over to AT&T and getting the Curve. Can anyone confirm the fact that you can re-do your deal while you’re already signed on to get a phone at contract price?

I truly am a mac addict. Everything I have is mac. But im still a little sketchy on the iPhone. Its going to be a first gen model of course, and while Apple is known for the quality of their products three things will prevent me from getting it right away (maybe). 1 is its going to be impossible to get prolly and it will be another Blackberry Curve launch date type action. 2 is that I hope its not a PS3 type launch with people doing drive by’s and stuff and AT&T stores and 3 which is the MAIN reason is unless they have a midnight launch my wife is delivering on that date so how sure are people of a midnight launch as I cannot and will not leave my wife and new son in the hospital alone while daddy goes by a iPhone. I really like the Curve too. What are the chances of a midnight launch. Does anyone know. BG would you kindly chime in here? Thanks everyone

Ok so the iphone has two killer apps for me. html email and a tabbed browser. Other than that, I can take it or leave it. I can’t see myself one handed tapping out lengthy emails/texts like I do today on my pearl. Nor can I see myself doing no-look dialing of a phone number. I don’t know if the iphone has voice dialing but it had better cuz I can see the accident reports now… “I was trying to look up a number on my iphone and didn’t see the traffic had stopped.”

Sense the screen is touch sensitive it must go nuts in a person’s pockets with misdialing and going to different apps, and from what I hear the battery is like the ipod which means the wear and tear is going to be great and battery life will decrease dramatically within the first year and you would pretty much have to replace a phone that I’m sure AT&T is not going to insure because of the cost.

I’m tired of people saying that other phones do *exactly* the same things as the iPhone. The only time this has been true, is with the guy who made the software app that acted like the iPhone and uploaded it to YouTube (right before Apple sent him a cease and desist). Now he’s got something trashier called “iLaunch” that isn’t nearly as nice, and he knowns it. I’d LOVE it if Apple suddenly looked around, and all phones had a multi-touch UI (no scrollbars or menus ALLOWED!), unified media interface, and full-blown browsers.

Apple has totally downplayed their UI innovations for a touch controls device, but most folks who pay attention see what I’m saying. It’s the basis of the new commercials (slide, tap, tap, done). I have no doubt Opera would be BETTER than Safari, if someone else had invented this UI before Apple. They didn’t though. Unfortunately. Fortunately, though?

Someone did. Apple. I think Apple would like nothing more than to have competitors focus on feature-lists and think Apples OS X UI replacement as simple window-dressing.

Me? I want them to “get it” so much Apple has to start suing people. I don’t know if that will happen though… with people who think the Blackberry does “exactly what the iPhone does” walking around.

dunno, alot of people, all of us ha ha, took that extension with the 8800 now we cant get it on the curve and deff. wont be able to get it on the IPHONE. then again its only money, I dont like this iphone very much but I am going to buy it even though I have a curve!

If you have been a long standing customer and you have a year or more left on your contract, they will (has been my experience) reset you to two years. If someone has had something different, lets hear from you.

So the interesting thing comparing $$ between the curve and the iphone is BB data plan vs Wifi on the iphone. Why would you need a data plan if you live in a wifi wired city like Austin? $40.00 less per month x 2 yrs= $960.00. Which phone is cheaper again?

So I guess you wont be able to by “prepaid” iPhones at launch based on the “fine print” in the commerical. I cant wait till the 28th for all the hype beast and iPhone launch parties and midnight store openings, let see how smoothly “they” (meaning ATT) handle the mass hysteria they have built up over this device.

Here’s the ultimate question:

Curve or iPhone?

From a “cool” standpoint, the iPhone wins hands down. From a monetary standpoint, the Curve is $199 after rebate and 2 year contract, the iPhone is $499 with a 2 year deal. Does the Curve do everything the iPhone does? No. Does the iPhone have enterprise-class e-mail service? No.

Seeing and feeling the device in person will be the true test. I have a feeling that the touch screen keyboard won’t be as good as advertised. People like keyboards. Look at the 8800? Main complaint? the keyboard. They keys are too close together and cause misspellings. I see a similar thing happening with the iPhone.

I still want one though

2. How is the typing compared to a phone with a qwerty keyboard

3. Expected battery life?

I know in Pittsburgh, they are only just now TESTING 3G connectivity. Because of my environment and the type of work I do, I have a Nextel Blackberry. I’m still rocking iDEN download speeds (not even close to EDGE). EDGE will suffice on the iPhone, until AT&T moves out with their coverage to more areas. Then we’ll have a legit gripe about the lack of 3G on the iPhone if they don’t add it.

Lame. June 29 is too far away! i was hoping BG was right! For all the nay sayers *cough* tim *cough* just wait till you see one of these in person. PLUS 3G for AT&T is still only in MAJOR metro cities. No one else has it.. and probably wont for 2 years (just intime to renew your contract for the 3G iphone). Thats very much the case for me. So the WIFI and EDGE will be more than sufficient. The iPhone, functionality wise, trumps everything in every way and does it in a glorious package (not to mention a better screen than any other phone out there).
On a side note, i noticed on ALL of the ads.. the time is the same (9:42am). not that big of a deal, but wtf? i also noticed that little car icon is still on google maps. hooray for driving directions!
Finally, the ad doesnt mention price. Even though its been stated, i’d be willing to bet there will be SOME kind of rebate (or free unlimited data plan) or something to take the sting off the price.

I really dont get it. Its not even 3g. Id rather see a 3g 8gb rizr z8. Better device for alot less cash. Never been an apple fan, Not going to start now. just an edge bar phone with an ipod.
