Motorola’s new 5 megapixel cameras by Kodak?

Much like Carl Zeiss has teamed up with Nokia for their camera phone technology, Motorola is teaming up with Kodak. Their vision is to bring 5 megapixel CMOS sensors to Motorola handsets by the end of this year. Kodak President Antonio Perez stated, "our CMOS sensors have been well advancing for many years. And now we will have the ability to embed the sensor in the phone with all the richness we have with our imaging software. It will allow us to make the sensor, the most important part of the camera, able to manage the light, color, and the like." Could this be a case of too little too late as Nokia has already brought to market 5 megapixel camera phones?

I don’t think it’s too late for Motorola to show what they can do with this type of technology. They might bring something better than Nokie to the market. I guess we’ll just have to wait until the end of the year to see what Motorola will be bringing.

I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be another war of the megapixels where vendors try and squish as many MPs into phones as they possibly can at the sake of actual image quality. I understand the need for a camera-phone, but I don’t need my camera-phone to be able to take 8×10s if all it is is a point-n-shoot with no zoom.

I PERSONALLY think both mp3 players and cameras in phones are over rated. I really just dont get it. The pictures just dont look that good. Now let me just say I have never seen a actually pic with one of those big MP Nokia shooters, but I agree with Bryan that image quality should be first. Not just a d___ sizing contest of the megapixels.
