Motorola Q9 Hands on!
Yes, we definitely got our hands on the new unreleased Motorola Q9h! First off the top is the noticable improvements over the first Motorola Q (CDMA). The keyboard — just wow! The feel of the unit is great, with speaker volume and quality on par or better than pretty much any Windows Mobile 6 Standard device. Yes even that one. Signal strength doesn’t look to suffer here, as we’re picking up lunar transmissions (just kidding). Call quality is also good too when using on AT&T. It really sounds pleasant to talk to someone over this. One of the stupidest issues with the first Q, and some other smartphones, is that the camera application was never full screen. Motorola has corrected that with the new Q9h and I have to say I’m kind of diggin’ it! Check out the full gallery below!

Release date?
With phones like the Curve, iPhone and now Q9h being released from AT&T – this last few months of 2007 will be very tough for AT&T customers to chose which phone they like the best. Someone might get the Curve within this week. Than in 3 weeks, the iPhone is released so they return the Curve and get the iPhone. Q9h is released later down the road, they return the iPhone and get Q9h (highly doubt that will happen but it IS possibilty). Choices, choices, choices…
BG, since this is UMTS/HSDPA will the implementation on the at&t network support simultaneous voice/data? This seems to be implied in most conversation about the technology but is it also network and/or device dependent? Thanks for the education / clarification in advance.

why cant we get a device that does blackberry email, looks and functions like an iphone, and is compatible with slingbox..and fits in my pocket – preferably with verizon…
Either BG is “stealing” these phones straight from distribution centers or works for CTI Miami and NYC. What the hell are you getting next the BBerry 99XX, I wouldn’t be suprised.

Very nice looking, though a little big. Got any specs? Looks like a 2MP camera from the picture, but what about the processor? The Q already had a pretty quick one, but I’m hoping they’ve beefed it up to 400MHz+ with this. And I know this is wishful thinking, but you haven’t found anything indicating built-in GPS have you?
Why can’t SOMEONE just release the ultimate phone: fast processor, great camera, 3g, WiFi, and GPS.
After using my Motorola Q for almost a year, I’m not sure I’d go with a Motorola Smartphone again due to the reliability and quality issues.
I think I’ll stick with my Nokia E61i

If only this phone didn’t run on windows mobile, it would be the perfect device. I absolutely hate windows mobile, tiring and cumbersome. Sigh…maybe some day.
I dont think i will make it a year with my Q it totally sucks keeps turning off by itself,people call and say the phone is out of service…..
i have a question about the upcoming htc devices. like the vox/ s710, cavalier, and the kaiser. for these devices are you going to need a computer that runs windows vista.
Did you try out any Java programs on it? The MotoDev site says that it will run J2ME apps out of the box. I’m curious about its Java support.
Motorola uses J2ME currently on all there Asia and North American phones that require it I believe. It’s pretty much the standard right now with phones whether linux based like my ROKR E6 or Windows based like my buddies Blackjack.
What kills me about the original Q is the QCELP audio codec used in 3GPP2 video. The video taken on these phones can’t even be played back on Windows Media Player. Motorola tells people to download QuickTime. Worse is *anyone* on a non-CDMA phone won’t be able to view your videos. Completely non-standard *and* inferior technology compared to the 3GP standards you see on the GSM based networks. Complete garbage.
The GSM version appears to be quite superior. One day Qualcomm CDMA will go away…
The screen shots of the display look really pixelated – what is the resolution of the display?
Also, nice to see the comparison with the 8800 – they look like peas in a pod. Seems like someone’s been “borrowing” IDs…
Heard Verizon is going to release the Prada phone to compete with the iphone. Is this true, BG?!?! gag me! I don’t want that waste of space! How about the new Pearl for Verizon?? Any gossip on what Verizon is going to drop to challenge the iphone… and of course, when!?

Nice device, although the device still looks like it need better battery life or has this improved.
Intriguing device I must say but not intriguing enough to take me away from the Blackberry Curve…not gonna happen! The iPhone on the other hand does have some potential but we’ll find out next month.
