Is HTC announcing a multi-touch phone?

We’ve had multiple sources tell us the same exact thing: HTC’s huge announcement on June 5th will be an HTC Elf device with multi-touch. Not wanting to jump the gun, we waited to try and confirm as much of this as possible. After everything panned out, it does look like this could well indeed be what HTC is planning to launch! You are probably asking yourself, "Didn’t BGR just unbox an HTC Elf?". The answer to that question is, yes, we definitely did! One small change though. The unit we received was actually recalled by HTC. No information was given, but that is when the multi-touch rumor started to make perfect sense. In addition, HTC’s public relations team had no comment on the newly developed speculations. There ya’ have it! Let’s see if this really does happen. While Windows Mobile can’t really compete with the Apple iPhone, you can best believe everyone is trying to steal as much thunder as possible.

I may be delerious(sp?) from the lack of sleep, so it is probably simple like whoa but. . . what do you mean by “Multi-Touch”?

    @ Leo

It means that you can provide input via two or more contact points with the screen. It could prove revolutionary because with multi-touch you can do alot more manipulation of information rather than simply dragging stuff around.

I am so tired of people saying the iphone will beat anything out. The Iphone is going to be rushed and I wont believe its worthwhile in any way until someone finally actually gets one in hand. And It hurts to hear from someone who I get a lot of sneaked windows mobile news already praising anything apple. Screw the iphone, I have had 11 windows mobile phones and there is nothing else for me

Please God HTC come through for me. I love my dash and MDA and would rather hand them 600 bucks than Apple.

Windows Mobile can’t compete with iPhone? Are you kidding me? For all I know, iPhone has quite a limited features set. No 3G. No keyboard. It can’t even let users install 3rd party applications. A very closed system for now. As for multi-touch, on a small screen. Give me a break.
iPhone II or iPhone III would stand a better chance. But who knows what the landscape is like in 2-3 years time.

I think this device would revolutionise the mobile market abouve and beyond the iPhone, making Pocket PCs a fasion statement potantially, if only the damn thing had Wifi! Its really frustrating me, Id be druling over everything on this device if it had WiFi. I mean now, in my life, WiFi is a must have. Thats why Im still thinking the HTC Kaiser has a wider potantial.

HTC IF YOUR READING THIS, ADD WIFI INTO ELF!

They’re definitely releasing the Elf! Look at the following pics and you can see the “clues” that the Elf will be released with multi-touch.

Do you have an iPhone? How do you know this can’t compete? I think the iPhone will be great but still have some serious weakness and it is ridiculous to hear someone so entralled by the hype that they are ready to pronounce a product they have never even touched as the winner.

Ofcourse I dont have an iPhone, dont be silly, its not even out yet.
Its just this device as far as Ive seen has eveything over the iPhone exept the UI (but thats modifyable and WM7 may bring a really smart UI, ya never know.)

Having said that, looking back lack of WiFi remains a huge problem.
New view, HTC Kaiser pwns iPhone in literally every respect. This matches.
(A necesary note for some people. All statements I make are merely opinion on what Ive seen so far. Until recently I didnt realise this was wrong so I apologise if this is offensive to anyone here)

Wait until after the 29th of June to comment. Your message is straight from Micro$oft talking points.

The one talking point from Micro$oft that you’ve not mentioned is the price. The “no one will pay $500 or $600 for a cell phone. Just to let you know I found this while browsing.

Nokia N73 sale price $459.98 (silver)
    Palm 680 ” ” $439.98
    Nokia E61l ” ” $529.98
    Nokia N73 ” ” $498.98 Black Music
    I-Mate Jamin ” $599.98
Nokia N95 ” ” $764.98 MULTIMEDIA GPS PHONE UNLOCKED SILVER

These are the sale prices, MSRP is much higher!
