Intelligent Keys…not so smart?

Remember when you actually had to put your key into a car door and turn it to get it to unlock? Yeah, me either. Looks like some Nissan folks will be re-aquainted with that concept soon. Apparently, their I-Key doesn’t like cell phones very much.  Enter Nissan spokesman Kyle Bazemore, interviewed by Reuters:  "We discovered that if the I-Key touches a cellphone, outgoing or incoming calls have the potential to alter the electronic code inside the I-Key. The car won’t start and the I-Key cannot be reprogrammed." Whoops. Fear not, Nissan fanboys. A new version of the key is due out this Fall.

I would expect this out of Nissan but a 30k dollar g35? This makes a 07 G35 worthless until Nissan can issue a fix. How can you market a 30k dollar car whose key doesn’t work? Infinity is going down the toilet, there resale value is already terrible.

I believe this is only for Nissan, not Infinity.
And to think I was going to get a Nissan Altima Coupe… I mean they didn’t test this out when it was in pre-production? How many people own cell phones out there? Nissan…go sit in the corner until and stare at the wall until I tell you to stop.

I have a G35 with an I-Key and I have never had a problem. My keys are sitting next to my bb right now. This will def not spot me from the G37.

Are you getting incoming calls w/ the I-key next to the bb?

I have an 07′ G35x and no problems with the intelligent key. They also give you a flyer from Nissan/Infiniti telling you about the intelligent key problem when you buy the vehicle. Durka, I disagree, how can one problem make a vehicle worthless? Not a single thing can be perfect, there will always be an issue with a vehicle, something you don’t like, etc.

This is happening to me right NOW. My car is at the dealership as we speak. The car will not open and when I am inside it will not let me out it goes into flip out mode! Locks, unlocks and it repeats that over and over for like 30 seconds. AND when I got out of the car @ the dealership THE WINDOWS ROLLED UP!! Wow. I do not keep it in the same pocket as my cell though so I do not think this issue is relative to me. BUT WHAT A PAIN!!

I have an ‘07 Altima with 800 miles on it that left me stranded 4 hours from home in Canada when I was visiting from Ohio. Who would have thought that by having my keys and cell phone in my purse this would have happened? How can a company put a $25k car out there with a completely non-mechanical key system that does not have an override? I intend to be fully compensated from Nissan for this huge inconvenience.
