Sprint 8830 delayed until mid-July?

A popular BlackBerry forum is placing Sprint’s release of the BlackBerry 8830 Worldphone a full month after its initially rumored release date. This seems entirely possible, given Verizon’s recent rollout issues, and Sprint’s general track record for botched/delayed release dates. As predictable as this might be, it’s still a significant blow to Sprint subscribers that were looking forward to getting their hands on the newest ‘Berry. Argh. No specifics were given as to why the date has been pushed back, though we can bet that it has nothing to do with increased functionality. Could it be that RIM is having some supply issues? Coupled with Verizon’s low stock at launch, this seems to be the most logical explanation. For once the best guess doesn’t fault Sprint.

The information I have from Sprint, which I obtained two months ago has always been a July 12 release date.

That is what I heard also…

the target launch date for the 8830 on sprint was 6/18/2007, proof of which is given by clicking this link of the internal paperwork.

you can speculate all day what you want, as anyone can just throw a date out there and be like ‘i heard, i heard, my rep told me, my boss told me” but that doesn’t mean anythig does it?
we all report hard evidence and make sure we have the facts to back it up…
that being said, i haven’t seen any solid proof of a july 12th launch date as of yet, but i did see and provide hard proof that the target launch was in june

I have been beta testing the 8830 and I can at least say that it’s not being pushed back because of problems with the device. It’s been great, even overseas.

So maybe it is supply.

Well, whatever internal documents that were leaked implied, the obvious is that when both Verizon and Sprint made the public announcement of the 8830, Sprint said since then it would be mid July, why would it now be considered a delay to keep to it? BGR even posted July when Sprint’s teaser site went up.

Well…! Late again, but if it is for better equipment with no problems, it’s worth the wait. However, as much as I hate Cingular and ATT in whole or apart, their 8800 works great and even has two way radio like Nextel…
Sprint and Verizon have wasted the other side of the 8830 transceiver trying to be like Cingular! Cingular, not having to be like CDMA is able to incorporate the two way.
I’m carrying my Nextel for Two-way and a Hybrid because the Nextel phone “NOT TWO WAY” service is as bad or worse than T-Mobile or Metro PC… and then I have to carry my BB 8703 to get the high speed tether that is needed…
I may have to kiss the one I hate… Cingular…
The Sprint 8830 SHOULD HAVE TWO WAY RADIO OR SPRINT SHOULD QUIT CHARGING US for MULTI EQUIPMENT ACCOUNTS JUST TO GET TOTAL SERVICE THAT WORKS.
On top of that, Verizon has turned the GPS off in their 8830 and it’s going back today… they want you to pay for their mapping service or TeleNav …. when all you should have to do is download Google maps and earth for free…
Google Maps work great on the 8703, but you will need an external GPS like my Bluetooth yellow DeLorme. Cingular on the other hand allows you to download Google Maps and Earth and finds your location within seconds, it works great and you can watch yourself going down streets and see the trees and houses. Sat view is much better than a map view, but it’s great to be able to click twice and go back and forth from the maps to the Sat View.
Sprint CDMA is great, but not at the cost of no Two Way Walkie Talkie Radio, especially realizing you bought Nextel two years ago and still can’t get it together!
Sprint, don’t bring out a New Blackberry that won’t even match up to Cingular, that just ain’t to smart! They, Cingular, are going to steal all your investments in Nextel for the Two Way… at least come out with two Blackberrys, one for Hybrid with CDMA Only and include Two Way Radio and a second one for Sprint with CDMA and GSM… don’t stick it to us again, please! And yes I know there is a new CDMA Two way coming out, at least that is what I think… But two more years with no quality equipment will mean I’m going to Cingular and taking my nine phone lines with me. My nine NON WORLD TRAVELING EMPLOYEES leaving the country and needing GSM is much less important that keeping the day to day operations of my company functioning efficiently in the US… Two years from now when you have CDMA Two Way it will be a whole new story… Cell phones and the service is like Iceberg lettuce, Great the first couple days, not so good a few days later, and rotten within the following days. So, as Gordon Bethune told me one time in person, ANYONE THAT TELLS YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THE AIRLINE BUSINESS, OR IN THIS CASE THE CELL PHONE BUSINESS, GREATER THAN SIX MONTHS, JUST DOES NOT HAVE ANY CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON… I STILL RESPECT AND REMEMBER IS GREAT COMMENT!
I loved Nextel, their customer service was great and Sprints was the worse, now they are much better; must have gotten marriage counseling during the mating of Sprint and Nextel.
A First Class Full Function Blackberry 88?? is what we loyal and over charged multi account customers need and deserve at Sprint and Nextel = customers I’m referring to!
In addition, by the way, please upgrade the tower that I helped engineering place at 40 mile bend and US41! It’s the tallest tower between Miami Fl and Naples Fl and it’s going to waste. I helped Nextel with antenna placement… I’m willing to help you to if you get this message… Sprint, let’s make it happen, that’s the motto at my company!

I have an email from my government rep that says July. He also says not 4.2 for 8703e until AFTER the 8830 comes out. His latest email says the at 4.2 for 8703 and 7310 won’t come out until 3rd Quarter of this year after the release of 8830. That can be anywhere from July to September.

I think many users speaking about Sprint-Nextel are not educated about their products. First, Nextel’s ptt is the only redundant network that does not go through the public switch. With your Cingular phone,(God forbid), if anything ever happen like 911…you would not be able to use it whereas on Nextel you can. Next, the 8830 BlackBerry is a worthwhile wait for true International people because it has an unlocked gsm sim. You can travel the world, buy a local sim and pay cheaper than T-Mobile or Cingular’s gsm BBs. Last Verizon does not have this. The only reason that the networks (Sprint and Nextel) are not together yet is because they are pushing to get to WIMAX. Just think faster speeds than WiFi with much more coverage and both networks (a high-speed ptt, gps and everything). It’s worth the wait. Get educated.

While “Takeanotherlook” might be right about Nextel’s PTT not going through the public switch, people are not going to wait another 2 years for “Sprint together with Nextel” to “Get Their “Act Together”.
I am also a Nextel customer for over 8 years and since Sprint has taken over Nextel they have not rolled out any new Blackberry’s or any new phones besides the ugly Power Source phones.
If it wasn’t for the Monopoly on the PTT Nextel has, most people would have left them along time ago. Instead people are forced to carry 2 phones, a Nextel phone for the PTT and a Blackberry for e-mail and data. Nextel is still charging $319 for the Blackberry 7520 which came out in December of 2004, how ridiculous is that?????
Meanwhile AT&T is charging $199 for the Blackberry Curve which just came out and it has a PTT, granted it’s not a Nextel PTT but who freakin cares at this point???
“Takeanotherlook” is defending Sprint/Nextel like he/she has stock in them. I used to love Nextel and hate AT&T but things change when you don’t deliver and others do. It’s about WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR ME NOW? Not, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO OR MIGHT DO IN THE FUTURE!!! While Sprint/Nextel is working on their WIMAX and their other B.S. which I’m sure might be great whenever the hell they get it working, ATT will be working on switching over Nextel’s customers. Who wants to carry 2 freakin phones when AT&T has it all??

Chill out Knowwhatyourtalkingabout,
You seem so angry. What I am is an educated customer, instead of just being angry I spoke with a Sprint Sales manager and asked what are their plans since they merged. They explained how they are going to get to WiMAX and it is suppose to start next year. They also told me the reason they do not have a new Nextel BB is because since they are going to a new network within a year..that any BlackBerry for now would be obsolete for the new change and RIM would not want to make hefty investment in a short-term network. If one device is so important to you…go to the Curve…get into a 2 year contract and miss any changes. On the otherhand, I like being able to use my 8703 with my laptop at no additional charge. I don’t have to look for hot spots anymore. Two phones…grow up. What did you do before they had cell phones?

I’m not angry, it’s more like annoyed. A merger of two big giant companies running on two years should not take this long to get the networks together. AT&T & Cingular did it in half the time, sure their networks were not as complex but still people don’t want to hear that when they are paying for service and not getting it.
Are you sure you don’t have stock in them? Because if you do, know that Sprint Nextel lost more than 700,000 traditional iDEN customers while registering a $211 million loss during the first quarter.
As far as the Curve, I think it’s definitely the way to go since waiting on Nextel might take another 2 years.
You have never heard of carrying two phones? If your in business and not at the office people do it all the time. What other way around it would there be besides lugging a labtop around. I need my Nextel for my workers and my Blackberry for e-mails??
As far as what I did before they had cell phones really didn’t matter because I was in high school and not in business.

I think you should get your facts straight I had Cingular service when they merged with AT&T wireless and that was more than some years ago. The company merged from BellSouth Mobility and about 6 other companies in 1999 and then they merged with AT&Twireless in about 2002. The only thing you have seen was the recent merger of the parent companies and yes they had to migrate from tdma to gsm to edge so I know what I am talking about and I know the problems that took years. Obviously, you are not an educated customer and maybe youngster at that and just disgruntled and that’s okay because I am sure someone will make money off you. I just love technology and try to learn rather than complain. Have a good day

When I was referring to AT&T & Cingular, I was obviously referring to the wireless division. I didnt know I had to break it down for you since you claim to be soooo educated. We were talking about cell phones, I figured that was obvious and you would know what I’m talking about.
Disgruntled?? This is a forum and this is what people do, they don’t always try to sell people on every company when the service and products are bad.
Youngster?? I don’t think so…
Younger than you?? More than likely, because your probably some washed up old fart who is bitter and goes around and just says that “I am an educated customer” like they have something to prove.
In case you can’t read, I said I need it for my business, so it really doesn’t matter if some piker like you makes a peon profit off of people like me. I have several businesses and more than enough money where it won’t put me on a corner with a German Shepherd and a tin cup.

Will someone please tell Sprint to upgrade the tallest tower in south Florida to CDMA! They, Sprint, have let the Nextel service diminish in quality and the tower, the largest I’ve ever seen that I helped Nextel place and direct their antennas, is going to waste. This tower is co located in the same compound as ATT’s newly purchased Cingular tower. The ATT tower does not have the antenna arrays pointed correctly, therefore service is degraded. Sprints “Nextel” tower is still old Iden and fading away. So, we don’t get service of quality between Miami FL and Naples FL…. east and west coast respectfully!

All you you folks might be forgetting about the FCC’s requirement that Nextel give their spectrum back to the government due to all the problems it’s caused the emergency services radio networks inthe adjascent band. I have heard that Sprint will be putting out Power Push to Talk, (Yet another stupid power name for a product) which is using a IP Standards based Qualcom Q-Chat. Once that occurs, Nextel will and MUST migrate all of their customers to the CDMA network and abandon the Iden technology. Remember, Iden is legacy, and nextel is no longer allowing any new phones on the NExtel brand to be released using anything but CDMA technology on the Phone and data side. That all being said, the lack of new release phones is based on the fact that no device manufacturer will spend the time and money to develop a device for an Iden network that the FCC mandates is to be turned off in the next two years.
Just my two cents folks!
