BlackBerry OS 4.3.0 - Coming Soon?

Warning: This post is merely for the geeks at heart who want just the hint of something new with little to no substance or content worth a penny to anyone, so please don’t shoot the pigeon. Fairly reliable sources, courtesy of some semi-[non]-revealing links on BlackBerry.com, seem to indicate that BlackBerry OS 4.3.0 could be on the horizon for most of the newer models of the BlackBerry family. This news is hot off the heels of the concurrent releases of OS versions 4.2.1 (BlackBerry 8800, BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry 8700, et al) and 4.2.2 (BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry 8830 only, so far).

It will have a Platform version of 2.7.0, where we currently have versions 2.3.0 and 2.4.0 for OS versions 4.2.1 and 4.2.2, respectively. It appears we’ll possibly see this OS version released for all of the 64MB+ device models, from the BlackBerry 7130 through the BlackBerry 8120 or BlackBerry Pearl 2 (could be a launch candidate), although none of this can be substantiated. This should pacify some of you for a minute or two. The one deduction that can be made is that OS version 4.2.2 may very well be the last we’ll see of the OS 4.2.x family, one of the strongest series from RIM to date. Whether or not we’ll get that version (and spell check functionality) with those handhelds that were recently (some are still pending arrival) blessed with OS version 4.2.1 remains to be seen, though.

I don’t understand everyone getting their panties in a wad over a new BB version. If your device is functioning well, and you aren’t clamoring for new features, then there’s nothing wrong with what you have. Keep it and be happy. Those that want to be the first on their block with the new BB OS need to get out and get some sunshine.

I need to know what additional features are added in this release or is this just a mircosfot style “fixes” update.

Are the blackberry curve and the blackberry daytona two separate devices? Will both be available at some point? I read that one (the daytona) has wifi and the other (the curve) doesn’t.

Can anybody clarify this for me?

I believe that “Daytona” was the development name of the Curve.

It’s all conjecture at this point, but some have hypothesized that we’ll see different flavors of the Curve across different carriers. Some with WiFi, some without.

There’s a mythical BB nicknamed “Papa Bear” which is supposed to have WiFi and GPS. If such a thing is indeed the works, no one is certain that it will be a Curve phone (i.e., 83xx) or rather part of a 9000 series of BB.

Where can I get 4.2 for the 8700c?
Does it require different Desktop Manager?
Where is the “Curve”, this week?, next week?
    next month?
    Speculations?

    Jibi,

So for those of us who have BB 7130e devices which have the SureType keyboard, are you saying that we can expect an OS upgrade, i.e, 4.2.2 version with “spell check functionality?”

    Please clarify. Thanks.

He is talking about 4.3 not 4.2.2
I understand that they just upgraded the 7130(gsm) to 4.2.1 so it maybe a while before you see 4.2.2 for 7130, if at all.

If you do a search for the Venezuelan version you will find it. Most forums have either linked to it or at least hints of it. Thats all I can say here in order to avoid any problmes.

I don’t see what all the fuss is about 4.3–lets see some official support for 4.2 on all devices already!!! You shouldn’t have to go to Venezuelan-providers to get it!

When should we expect to see 4.3 on the 88xx or Pearl? Probably in a couple years, based on 4.2 releases to existing products.

I just want a web browser worth a damn for Blackberry. I like Opera mini, but it is not a Java app and does not integrate well. In other words, no select or copy features. That, and the interface is very inconsistent.

If rumors are true of a better web browser, then this new version is just what I need.

Sunshine or no, some people do need 4.3. For me its about the new media player having playlists instead of the lame folder playing media player I have to live with now. And if there are tweaks and extra functionality that will help my business, then bring it on.

“BlackBerry Handheld Software v2.7a” is available here:

    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/devices/pearl.jsp#tab_tab_downloads

But it states it’s for “Software For RIM 950(TM)/ RIM 957(TM)”. Am I being dumb or will that not work on a 8100/Pearl..?

Well, what ever software version RIM decides to put out, I hope it is stable. The nice thing about all the increasing do dads: APP ERROR 523 RESET.

PLEASE, PLEASE fix the damn bug already. I am so tired of forgetting to back up and *poof* all gone.

What good is a 1 or 2 GB mini SD if I have to use my clunker laptop for back up?

It is only JAVA!! Hire some high schoolers and get us stable OS already!!!!
