Asus J502 allows for remote control via SMS

The Asus J502 is no slouch of a handset. This smartphone features a 2.4" QVGA screen, microSD slot, Bluetooth, 3 megapixel camera, TV-out, and a whole host of other functions. Most impressive, however, is an innovative new implementation of SMS features. Users can send pre-defined messages to the phone’s telephone number with instructions such as "shutdown", "call forward", "phone lock," "send vCard", and much more. The phone, somewhat predictably, responds to whatever instruction is sent. We could see this being useful in a number of different settings. Imagine leaving your phone at home for the weekend, but forgetting to set call forwarding to your other handset. Losing your phone could become less of a hassle and heartbreak as well, with the option to remotely lock the handset down to prevent intrusion from prying eyes and fingers. There’s no word on price or release date, but let’s hope that this feature finds its way into other similarly equipped handsets.

ya, but what kind of security will they put on it. I’m a bit ignorant on the SMS side, but is SMS that secure?

Do I want friends pranking me by shutting off my phone, or forwarding my calls on me? Kinda like the stuff they are running into with the Live Traffic GPS units and the corrupting of data. It sounds great, but sounds like an avenue for problems.

    Maybe I’m just paranoid.
