Creative Zen Wav officially skips town

This one has been in the rumor mill for a while, but there hasn’t been much in the way of official details. In an attempt to squash the wild speculation, Creative has gone ahead and officially released the thing, albeit in Singapore. If a little trans-Pacific journey doesn’t scare you off, then by all means bring us back a couple! The most significant innovation is the inclusion of an onboard set of stereo speakers. Complimenting the speakers is a tailor made "Acoustic Stand" that Creative claims is capable of enhancing the output of the speakers themselves. In addition it provides charging duties. Everything else is pretty standard Creative fare, with 2GB flash memory, support for the standard file codecs, and 20-30 hours of battery life depending on speaker usage. Available this week in the South Pacific for the equivalent of $117, Creative has mentioned no plans to bring this baby to the US. Aww man!

While I am always sad to see new technology not make it to the US, I am glad to see this is one of the many that doesn’t need to be here. I am already tired of hearing very bad phone speakers being used as DAP’s.
