Verizon BlackBerry 8830 Launch Issues

Verizon’s Blackberry 8830, the World Edition, seems to be having a hard time making it’s global debut. Customer service reps have said the "website and sales department can not process any orders because of a glitch with the process." Currently Verizon Wireless’s site is experiencing a bit of a lag when trying to visit pages relating to the BlackBerry. It looks as if the phone might only be available via the business channel today by calling (800) 899-4249. If you are in the market for the new BlackBerry on Verzion, we suggest that until it is available on the site, you try business sales.

Thanks, Mikey!

What’s with these carriers lately? We wait, and wait, and wait. Then they say “It’s available!!! Come get it!”. Then you try to get to their sites, and they die, or don’t work? Do these carriers have QA Testers for their code? There are these developer tools available now that test load, and simulate 10’s of thousands of users actually trying to hit a site…pretty cool stuff, they should check it out.

Oh, and I hate that guy on the Verizon commercials. That dopey look on his face when people look at him. I’d like to throw a phone at him.

It’s not supposed to be released yet. Notice how the availability emails haven’t gone out. Today is the day for business accounts only. May 28th was always the rumored b2c release date, so nothing has really changed.

I just ordered the 8830 by calling the business number (800-899-4249). Didn’t wait too long and the salesperson was really pleasant. She said they have the phone in stock and I should receive it via FedEx by Wednesday. Best part was that I got $100 for signing up for an unlimited data plan (does anyone really not get this option?), another $100 for my new-every-two, and it comes with an additional $100 rebate. So instead of $399, I’m getting it for $99!

I also just ordered this phone via the business number but got it for $324. The discounts are $100 off for signing up for the unlimitied data plan OR the new for two. There is not an additional rebate on this. The most $$ you can save is about 100 bucks. If you want to order online, you’ll have to wait until May 28th.

Are you getting the 8830 with a business account or with a consumer account? I called this morning as a consumer and they said I had to wait until the 28th.

I already have an account with Verizon (Personal not Business) and I was able to order it. If you are signing up.. try calling Barbara at 813-290-6111 ext. 2126 (mention my name Selena Garcia) and she should be able to help you out.

Hi everyone! For those wanting to contact Barbara she only handles a certain area.. which I forgot to mention.

    Here is her note below:
Unfortunatly, I only can process orders from the South East portion of the US. Would it be possible for you to let your referrals know? Just for your info, the states I cover are: TX, AR, MS, AL, FL, NC, SC, GA and TN. Thanks again!

Does anyone have a contact for Ohio? I had no luck yesterday finding anyone that would sell me the 8830. They are all telling me I need to wait until the 28th. Anxious to get my first Blackberry….. I guess 2 weeks won’t kill me.

I am in LA and have tried the 800-899-4249 number (with painfully long hold times). Both times I was told that this number only handles the east coast and there is no equivalent unit on the west coast. I was transferred to telesales at 800-485-1997 and they were unable to locate the code for the phone to sell. I was also told that the phone is coded that it should be available online, but I’m not seeing it. If someone was able to order the phone on the west coast I would be incredibly grateful to hear how they managed it.

    Brandon,

I’m here in L.A. too and I ordered mine through the 4249 number. It was painful though, I called at 7:30 and I almost had it but I had to pay a portion of my bill first, then I called back twice and they told me they couldn’t process them and I’d have to wait til the 28th. I decided to try one last time (since the first lady pretty much processed my order I knew they had it) I finally got transferred to someone that was able to process it for me. I guess if your impatient enough like I am then just keep trying, it doesn’t seem like everyone is on the same page at VZW so don’t listen to a person that tells you they don’t have it, just wait a bit and call back. Or you can wait til the 28th. Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow. Hope this helps

    Forgive my last post

399 is the New 2year agreement price not the full retail.

    Nona Maas says:

    Full retail is $519.99

You can’t just keep adding $100 rebates/discounts on top of it. $399 is the two year agreement.
