RIM’s Jim Balsillie says BlackBerry shutdowns a thing of the past

In a recent interview, RIM co-chairman Jim Balsillie stated that the series of failures that led to last month’s massive backend failure have been "unambiguously solved" and that further redundancy has been created to make certain that a failure of similar magnitude and scope will never happen again. Balsillie blamed the shutdown on a "process error" and noted that neither system nor infrastructure corruption were responsible for the issue. Noting that the U.S. government is the company’s largest customer, Balsillie recognized that the BlackBerry failure impacted not only consumers but issues of national security and importance. With Secret Service personnel, legislators, and other law enforcement officials depending so heavily on their ‘Berry’s, the reliability of RIM’s servers is clearly a significant concern. Balsillie stated that the company has taken extraordinary measures to institute more fault tolerance, and that they have set up a fail-over center in an undisclosed location to handle critical data should the primary system ever experience a similar issue. While we won’t pretend to believe that RIM’s servers will never fail again, it is nice to know that the company is taking these issues seriously, and devoting significant resources towards creating a more robust and reliable solution. We heart you RIM.

now if only RIM would start its own wireless company…then we could totally bypass the bullshit of Vzw, tmo, cing, etc etc…
I don’t think I have ever heard of a wireless company working so hard to ensure a fix to a known problem.
