Microsoft says “Hold On” to open source software

Microsoft seems to be gearing up for a legal battle with open source software developers. Citing over 230 patent violations, Microsoft lawyer Brad Smith cited both the Linux kernel and Open Office as two of the biggest offenders. The he former is responsible for 42 patent violations, and the latter racking up a solid 45 such breaches. As of right now it seems unclear as to whether or not the company plans on proceeding with legal action, but it certainly seems to be keeping its options open. Steve "I’m the man" Ballmer also goes on the record as saying that open source software should be forced to "play by the same rules as everyone else." The fact that "everyone else" is motivated by profit margins didn’t seem to cross his mind. Ah nuance…such a nasty thing. Whatever the outcome, you can be sure that this isn’t the last time we’ll hear from Microsoft on the issue.

If MS every makes quality software that does not crash or slow down your pc over time then I will be glad to listen to what they have to say. Until then leave the open source software vendors alone and let them work!

Hmmmm…”If MS ever makes quality software that does not crash…”? I’ve installed a number of different flavors of MS Windows [WfWG 3.11/95/98/NT3.51/NT4.0/2000/XP/Vista], as well as the varying releases of Office, including the individual apps like Word, and Excel. NONE of those ever crashed my systems. I’ve had software written for different versions of Windows crash MS Windows, specifically shareware/freeware, but that’s really “Use it at your own Risk” apps.

Not talking about shareware/freeware. I try not to use that because it is use at your own risk. I have just had a bad track record with MS operating systems over the years and may be overly critical. I have one system that will crash every other day. the only think that is done consistently is IE and Outlook. My experience is that the software is not stable.
