I have the 8100 already. I want the 8120 for the wifi abilities cause of the hotspot at home so I can reduce my service plan. Anyway why cant cell phone makers do like they do over seas (Hong Kong, Singapore, etc) and sell thier phones unlocked and able to use on any network? Dont they relize they would make more money this way (ie Apple and the iPhone). I just much rather walk into any store and just buy the new 8120 BB and not have to worry about it working with T-Mobile.

FCC Spills Details on Wi-Fi-Equipped BlackBerry Pearl

Documents seen on the FCC site revealed information about the BlackBerry 8120. This is a quad-band GSM/EDGE version of the recently announced 8130, and has many of the same upgrades, including GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, external microSD slot, and updated mail software. It does not include 3G, but adds 802.11b/g Wi-Fi to the mix. The user manual also details a UMA client on the Pearl 8120, which could indicate that it is headed for T-Mobile and might be compatible with T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home service.

at&t released this device to it’s field trial teams on 10/1. Not certain about other colors, test units came in a dark gray.

3.5mm jack, BT (stereo I am told but couldn’t test it), wifi, PTT, microSD slot. I think release scheduled for late Nov.

I have the Blackberry Pearl and I loved it until yesterday when all of the sudden only the speakerphone will work. I can use my Jabra wireless earpiece and the speakerphone but not the actual ear on the phone…there is no sound.

We had Cingular before T-Mobile and they SUCKED! I had people calling me 10X a DAY for someone else! I had hours of “call waiting” charged to me every month…for calls I KNOW I didn’t make. I had a $1300 bill one month and when I tried to explain that the calls weren’t mine they said “tough luck.” My assistant got her daughter a cingular and she could call out, but when you called her some lady in a town nearby answered. They apparently had the same #. The lady said that Cingular had already done this to her before.

Anyone have any clues on why my phone is broken or how to fix it?

I know after reading about the Pearl’s complaints the right corrections better made on the 8120! If blackberry is listening, when I call customer care they were telling me that a lot customer’s were complaining about not have total website access. I know you hear me BLACKBERRY. Stop running the scams and make the corrections. Don’t get me wrong, the Pearl is a great phone, but whats up with not being compatible with all websites…..make that correction and the Pearl is unstoppable!!!!!

On a news and tech journal on TV they said, last week, that consumers are NOT interested in broadband speeds on cell phones. In other words, there is not a non-business market for such.

Moreover, there is huge pressure from broadband and DSL providers to NOT let cell phone manufacturers cavalierly venture into their “high speed” markets. This makes sense considering that with T-Mobile, for example, I have a $20 unlimited data plan. I already use that when using my Pearl as a Modem to my notebook [115k speed].

Can you imagine how fast people would disconnect their home DSL or broadband connections if they could use their cell phones for an unlimited broadband connection.

Just mentioning all this to explain why the phone manufacturers come out with features on a piecemeal basis. They have to satisfy not only the consumers, but more importantly, the competing carriers who also offer home-based high speed connections. No one carrier wants a cell phone on the market that is sold by competing carriers that will cut into their offerings.

Just something to think about.

I’m tired of the cell service providers selling their own phones. But it’s how the system works, and I guess I have to live with it. I think the pearl 8120 better be out by october, because that’s when we’re switching to cingular ::COUGH::VERIZONSUCKS::COUGH:: and i really want to get a pearl with all the new features. IT’s one fo the few phones that doesn’t make you look like a college student trying to feel grown up and executive like, but still has really good syncing with outlook. and an amazing texting keyboard. that’s really important as well!

WiFi is great for those that don’t want to pay for a data plan. My nokia e61 has WiFi, and I use it to grab email at home/office/Panera/etc. and deal with it off-line, eliminating an AT&T $50/month data fee. If people want me bad enough, call. I’m not that insecure that I need real time email everyplace.

GPS would be something that I could use everyday, but placing the phone on the dash to get the satellite signal, and then trying to use the small size screen from 3 feet away is tough – a bluetooth GPS receiver is a better solution.

Camera? OK, so now I need another phone to take to work, where cameras are not allowed for security reasons. Having the ability to disable the camera is fine – just tell the security guard the camera does not work – he’ll let you into secure environments, don’t worry…

Have to keep my E61 or my 7290 and switch the SIM out of the Pearl to go to work.

What about it’s size and weight? I hope it won’t have a GPS, as I already got it in SXG75, just looking for sweet and small smart phone with great display.
