Cable internet speeds go through the roof

With wireless solutions such as EV-DO Rev. A, HSDPA, and the upcoming WiMAX giving consumers near landline internet speed, cable providers have to step up their game if they hope to retain a large portion of their current customer base. The introduction of DOCSIS 3.0 could be the shot in the arm that the industry needs. The new technology, announced at the National Cable and Telecommunications Conference in Las Vegas, will ultimately allow for download speeds of up to 160Mbps, which is a world ahead of the current bandwidth allotments that allow between 1.5 – 30 Mbps. While the technology is currently available, it will take some time for carriers and providers to roll out supporting infrastructure. Estimates place adoption at 40% by 2011, with 100% rollout taking significantly longer. While promising, the impending availability of fibre-optic networks from AT&T and Verizon means that cable companies might still find themselves hung out to dry.

Well if Comcast gets this. You can sure bet that there will be invisible d/l and u/l caps. Comcast will charge one arm plus one leg, some between 100-200 mo just for internet. Then if you want IP tv you will only get 20 channels at another $100. Then to top it off with VoIP (lets not forget that Verizon owns the patents) for unlimited for the low low price of $70. I also heard that Comcast wants to provide is internet users content just like the former @Home and just like AOL. This business model has always failed. @Home is gone and AOL is not far from selling all of it’s dial-up customers to some other provider like NetZero. Thus becoming another Yahoo, MSN, ect…

I for one will not be paying for this expensive crap service called cable…
