MySpace Purchases Photobucket

In a rumored 250 million dollar deal that has now been confirmed, MySpace has purchased the top photo sharing site, Photobucket. Photobucket only brought $6.3 million in revenue last year and around $25 million purposed for 2007. For anyone not familiar with Photobucket they have 36 million registered users and add 85,000 per day. Last month MySpace put a temporary block on Photobucket pictures, but quickly lifted the ban. Without MySpace, Photobucket would not be as successful as it currently, and by simply visiting their main page, it is apparent they are targeting the MySpace crowd.

Here are some of Photobuckets stats via Hitwise:

  • Photobucket is the 22nd most visited website overall in the US among all US websites for the week ending May 5, 2007
  • 58.78% of Photobucket’s traffic came from MySpace.com and MySpace Mail combined for the week ending May 5, 2007.
  • Based on Hitwise Clickstream data, Photobucket was the fifth most popular website visited after MySpace.com, with 1.7% of the traffic leaving MySpace.com to go to Photobucket for the week ending May 5, 2007.
