BlackBerry Curve gets Canadian

Looks like the US isn’t the only ones who will be getting the new Blackberry Curve. Rogers in Canada has announced they will be launching the new Blackberry Curve in June. It’s got all the bells and whistles of the US model. Here’s what John Boynton, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer of Rogers had to say about the exciting news, "As the leading wireless carrier in Canada, Rogers is committed to bringing innovative products like the BlackBerry Curve to Canadians. Our customers are always looking for smart technology solutions and the new BlackBerry Curve, with its combined power and simplicity, will be attractive to businesses and consumers.” The release dates as currently rumored now show AT&T for May, Rogers for June, and T-Mobile for July. As always, remember these dates are subject to change.

Will there be an OS update for the 8800 to include the new Roxio media manager and/or the spell check feature? I have an 8800 on Rogers and love it!

Heard through another source that it looks like July is the TMO rollout for the 8300. It’s bad enough that AT&T gets it before TMO, but the Canadians do too? AHHHHHHH!!!!

Think of this this way. What “extras” do you get with this phone vs the 8800? A better media browser (who don’t have an iPod?), spell checking (an os update could fix that on ANY bb model), and a better keyboard.

So you are saying that a better keyboard is worth sacrificing GPS? I say go get an 8800, and don’t look back.

And I’d say get a BlackBerry Curve, and break every BlackBerry 8800 in sight. :)

I am completely torn – I was deadset on getting the 8830 for Verizon since switching carriers is expensive and annoying. Now I don’t know what to do – waiting for a solid side by side comparison of the two. Any ideas on a Verizon date anyways??

I don’t know what RIM is thinking, but they should release it on T-Mobile along with ATT. They are already making enough money on the device, why not make more with a bigger crowed of people on different providers.

    Hey Tman65,

I think it’s about time that RIM and Rogers Wireless worked out a deal so that Canadians would get the CURVE around the same time as some of the American carriers, i.e., JUNE, 2007.

After all RIM is a Canadian company, and Canadians love their BlackBerrys just as much as Americans.

    Share the love!!

Sorry, meant no disrespect. I guess I’m just tired of hearing only about AT&T and Rogers getting new BB devices ahead of others. To the tune of the Queen song “I want it all” — I want my 8300, and I want now!!!

    @ Boy Genius,

Do you think TMO’s version will have the same specs as the ATT version? Or do you believe TMO will enable Wi-Fi on their version? This would sure help me decide if I should purchase this month with ATT or possibly wait till July for TMO’s release. My ATT contract is up and have been waiting two months for this Curve release and I’m using a 7100g. I’m so ready to get this thing replaced ASAP.

Any info regarding this would certainly be appreciated BG!

    Thanks again.

As usual everything is pretty much unconfirmed, but from what I’m hearing the T-Mobile version of the BlackBerry Curve “should” have WiFi as it will fit nicely with T-Mobile’s Hotspot@Home service.

oh oh t-mo.. looks like you’ve begun to backslide once again.

why is it we have the oldest OS version on the pearl?
why is there no estimated date on getting the BIS upgrade cingular has?
why are you getting 8300 series after a CANADIAN provider?
why is your tech support so friendly but uneducated about the blackberry line of phones?

before I was saving $20 each month with t-mo bis, but now with att’s reduced price it really has made me begin to wonder if saving $10 dollars a month is really worth it?

    Thanks BG.

I just read up from the WSJ that TMO plans to launch the hotspot@home service nationwide in mid-June. Just in time for the Curve release. ATT and Sprint have been beta testing this type service too. We just don’t know when they plan to exercise their plans.

    $20 for the service.

My guess is t-mobile is waiting to launch their home wifi telephone service first then launch the 83xx with wifi so it will work with the home service and you can call from home or t-mobile hotspots with unlimited minutes and then also it willl automatically switch between wifi and cell signal never interupting the call.

    Tman65 says:

It’s not his fault, it’s TMO. They’re doing it now with the 8800. They announce it, then say well it’s only available online and through an upgrade. Then, well really it’s only available online, and not an upgrade, AND it’s on back order.

They’d be better suited not to make any announcement at all until they know they have enough, and they can support it.
