Yahoo Photos bids farewell, Flickr to gain video support

This one has been on the table ever since Yahoo acquired Flickr, and it looks like the final nail has been hammered into the coffin. Yahoo is set to shutdown Yahoo Photos. The closure will take place over the course of several months. Existing users will be given the option to seamlessly migrate their images to Flickr, or export to other services including Shutterfly and Photobucket. Yahoo Photos is currently the biggest image hosting service on the web, boasting over 2 billion stored photographs, compared with Flickr’s 500 million. The death of Yahoo Photos seems to come at a logical point in Flickr’s development, as the service will soon have support for user generated video content, making it an all-in-one media hosting solution. No timetable has been set for the adoption of video support, but if you’re an existing Yahoo Photos user, there’s no time like the present to begin familiarizing yourself with the wonderful world of Flickr.
