Helio Ocean as early as May 21st
.jpg)
Thanks to a tip we received, all signs are pointing to a May 21st release for the Helio Ocean. The general consensus around Helio shows a "general release on May 21st" and "limited/internal/partner release is 5-8 (days?) prior." The Helio Ocean is one of the most feature-packed handsets to come along, not sure if you heard of it, but it combines3G with almost every popular IM client and email support, GPS, MySpace Mobile, Plays-For-Sure support and a nifty dual-sliding form factor. Now if it was just on a better network, like the one that doesn’t allow links…

Better network? Helio’s focus is data, when it comes to data they are on the best in America.

It’s actually on May 11th or the following weekend. That’s what the Helio rep told me but they aren’t that big about divulging such things….

Amy,
That may be the correct date or it may not. Helio Reps don’t actually know, there is wild speculation and many different dates floating around within the non-executive tiers of Helio.
Whenever it is coming out, it’ll be great!

If not Windows mobile, what OS? Symbian? Custom? Linux? Will the phone be open for 3rd party apps?

It’s on a proprietary OS developed by Helio only for Helio phones. It supports some Java basics so probably open to simple games but closed to most apps. Go to Helio’s website for details.

Can’t wait ’till an unlocked version of this KICK ASS phone comes out…that’s where the REAL action is for phones here in the cool-phone deprived, US of A.

Why wish for the Ocean to be released on a network which doesn’t even understand the concept of hyperlinking?
Helio may be small, but they do seem to understand the mobile Internet better than the big carriers - open standards, high speed and proper applications are what people want and not walled gardens/DRM/being nickle and dimed to death by dinosaurs like AT&T.

I really dig the price of Helio’s plans and the form factor of this device. With the exception of T-Mobile’s Sidekick dataplans, all of the major carriers charge FAR too much for unlimited data. I’ll most likely be switching to Helio for my backup/messaging/net phone…

I have a problem with my helio phone I was trying them out b/c i do not like spprint anymore. But where the sd micro memory card goes, the spring is broken and does not stay inside. I just got the phone last monday -6/4/07. they told me i can take it back anywhere that sells helio phone and they will replace them —which is not true. So I’m wondering what should I do.
