BlackBerry 8300 = BlackBerry Curve?

Well, low and behold, in the long wait for more and more information to trickle in about the BlackBerry 8300, it appears that we have a formal name for the device’s release. In spirit of the BlackBerry 8100 having a consumer-friendly alias with the BlackBerry Pearl, the BlackBerry 8300, which is set to merge the business and consumer worlds of BlackBerry, is apparently named the BlackBerry Curve.
www.BlackBerry8300.com, which was recently purchased by RIM from private holdings, now redirects to www.BlackBerryCurve.com, although it’s nothing more than a blank placeholder page. The new website’s domain record reflects that of Register.com, Inc., RIM’s domain registrar of choice. The DNS redirect would not be possible without RIM’s authorization, so I think it’s safe to assume this as the new name. I kind of like it. Now, who thinks that RIM will announce the BlackBerry 8300 or BlackBerry Curve at WES 2007? I sure do.
Thanks, MiBlackBerry!

when the f**k is it coming out already. I guess the “releasing within weeks in April” was not good info.
I think they’ll be releasing it at WES 2007, probably as a way to pimp their own event like Apple Expo
Well who will get this thing? With Sprint’s GA date in July for the 8830 could this be the reason why are they throwing a curve at everyone?
My bad watching ESPN. With Sprint not GAing the 8830 until July, will they throw us a curve and release the Curve instead?
I like it; Curve is a very marketable name!
RIM also registered the blackberry9900.com domain at the same time as they did the curve
left one tmo and right one cingular
this wont show up on the sprint network for a long time. the 8300 is a gsm device.
BGR, any word on if T-Mobil’s 8300 is going to have GPS, WiFi or Camera?
I hate how none of these blackberry’s are 3G I mean what will it take to get a umts/hsdpa radio into a new blackberry, sprint and vzw are already on their 2nd generation 3g models. Catch up please gsm
UMTS was put in the 8707. Until American and Canadian carriers can fully release their UMTS and HSDPA network upgrades, don’t expect to see a 3G BlackBerry device in North America. With that said, I expect all GSM carriers to have 3G deployments in the next couple months. I think we can expect the 9100/9900 devices to be equipped accordingly.
I hate waiting!
Still wondering if we can see comparison shots of the 8300 and pearl. Please?
Thanks, keep up the good work!
Don’t be so fast claiming 8300 as a GSM only device. It is being tested by both Sprint engineers as well as Cingular engineers. It is the coolest device I have ever seen. Not your Grandma’s blackberry!
Who’s grandma has a blackberry…?
Yeah, I’m just jealous you’ve seen it.
Lets just hope this thing lands with cdma, verizon needs some blackberry lovin. The cyclone is too business exclusive.
BG excellent scoop! as always your on the money
Sprint will getting this first.
I don’t mean to over-post/hijack this thread, but I’m no longer getting directed to blackberrycurve.com.
Also, on a side note, http://www.blackberry8820.com now directs to the 8800 series site…
P.S. This thing with Sprint again? Seriously? Hahahaha.
if this comes to sprint first then i will be VERY surprised……I cant even believe that sprint would get it before verizon. Either way i would be happy that cdma got some love.
Now the domain http://www.blackberry8300.com don’t redirect to http://www.blackberrycurve.com.
But yesterday, when we post the notice was a fact.
I just pinged blackberrycurve.com and blackberry8300.com. They’re on different servers, and no redirect, so if they did make DNS changes, it was short lived.
I was close to ordering a TMO 8800, but I’ll wait until I hear about the 8300. Could care less about the camera, it just looks better.
First off I want too thank all you guys. For all the valuable info but what’s between the 8300. And the 8800.
Between? Nothing really. The 8800 is targeted at the B2B group, and the 8300 is the general consumer. Kind of like the 8700 vs the 8100.
I am guessing that is why tmo doesn’t retail the 8800 in stores. it looks like data is geeting the back seat to the huge myfaves push.. yet the htc atlas / wing device and 8300 will probably come out together. mid 2nd qtr like last year.
From the picture, which i’m sure is the old one, it looks like the one on the left still has the wi-fi logo in the top bar, hopefully that is still an option.
