Sprint Announces PPC-6800

Sprint has sent out the data sheet for their upcoming PPC-6800 (HTC Titan). What a great phone, if it only included Windows Mobile 6 and EV-DO Rev A., instead of hinting at the possibilities of being able to upgrade later. Featuring a 2.8" QVGA LCD screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, microSD card, and 2-megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and camcorder, it is expected to launch late next month as the replacement to the PPC-6700.

I need a new phone. I have been reading all your replies and now i want the 6800. However i have a time constraint on getting this phone. I go to school online line and need a fast phone to access the internet when i am in Florida, where i have no internet access. I was going to get the Iphone but when i found out it is coming out with EDGE technology i decided that edge is too slow for me. Now i am looking at the 8525 (Cingular) but i am afraid the Cingular’s network wont be fast enough. So i was looking at the 6700 until i called sprint and was told that the 6800 is coming out but he didn’t know when. I need a new phone by the end of June. Who do you think has the fastest network and least drop calls? cingular or sprint. I am currently will nextel and i hate it because i get many drop calls. After sprint took over nextel there service degraded tremendously. So i am up for a new phone what would all you suggest? Please give me your input thank you Nene

If you go to the main t-mobile page and click on the picture of the wing (blue) it says Windoe mobile 6. You are right though - if you go to the actual details it does not say WM6.

I have a photo of th wing showing the about page - WM6

If I were in your situation, I would get the 6700 for a few reasons. First: the 6800 probably won’t be out by the end of June (but if it is, get it). The 8525 is a spectacular phone, the only problem with it is, as far as internet speed, it’s mostly on the Edge network. It has the 3G technology, but it isn’t wide spread as you may need it to be. The benefit to the 8525 is reception, it’s a better network. Cingular has a way better coverage than Sprint reception wise (and that’s coming from a Sprint customer). If it’s the best internet you can get now, the 6700 or the Verizon version of the 6700 is the best way to go. They are both on the EVDO network which is the only widespread broadband network on America.

Yeah, but that’s not a T Mobile website that actually sells that phone. I went back to the T Mobile website and it says nothing about having WM6. Send a link over, but only if it’s from the T Mobile website. Thanks.

Will i get a lot of drop calls from the sprint network? I definitely think sprint has a faster network than cingular. How fast would you say your phone is (6700) when using it as a modem? I also want to be able to talk on my phone without drop calls. Sprint is cheaper than cingular. If i go to another company i will have to pay a termination charge but it i stay with sprint i don’t. I think in the middle of June i will get a 30 day trial on sprint and see how the service is.

This was from a cnet member i don’t know if it works.

Here is a tip a friend of mine shared with me a few years ago for all Sprint phones. If you are in an area where you aren’t getting too many lines on your signal bar or if your phone keeps missing calls this is all you have to do. Dial *18 talk, wait for the beep and then hang up. You should see more bars appear immediately after the call. What this does is send out a signal to the nearest Sprint tower to get you better service. After that you can place your call.”,”

Yeah, that would be the best way to do it. I would say I get 400 to 800kbps when using the 6700 as a modem. I think you have the right idea man!

    Your Very welcome

Let me know if the *18 works? I am searching around the sites to see what people are saying about the two different phones. The 8525 and the 6700, 6800. From what i am reading many people don’t like the 8525 because its very restricted. You aren’t able to access file sharing sites and even utube. I dont know if this is true but if it is then thats bad. I also heard a lot of complaints about the 6800 because its not coming with wma6. Can you access file sharing sites from your phone or even utube? I just don’t like to be restricted, i don’t use those sites but i don’t want anyone telling me i cant.

    If it is any help

I agree that the WM6 is somewhat hard to find - not in the details of the phone at all

I stand corrected Blazingwolf. Only thing is, I have 3 friends of mine that had to flash their roms to upgraded custom rom to get WM6. Theirs got shipped with WM5, that’s why I was so adament that it didn’t have it. They pre-ordered theirs so maybe they got the super early versions. So to correct my previous statement, the 6800 will be the 3rd phone in America that will be shipped with WM6, unless Cingular releases their WM6 update before Sprint does. So until then Sprint and Verizon guys, get your custom roms and get WM6 now!
