Sprint Announces PPC-6800

Sprint has sent out the data sheet for their upcoming PPC-6800 (HTC Titan). What a great phone, if it only included Windows Mobile 6 and EV-DO Rev A., instead of hinting at the possibilities of being able to upgrade later. Featuring a 2.8" QVGA LCD screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, microSD card, and 2-megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and camcorder, it is expected to launch late next month as the replacement to the PPC-6700.

Upgrade to what, the 6800? If so, you can’t yet. It’s not supposed to be released until Oct 2007.

Let me repeat it. Sprint technology sucks. How do you like your brick 6700? Sprint is always behind to Verizon and especially Cingular. BTW have you heard about a similar HTC device to the 6800 Tmobile Wing. That is now out with WM6. Even frigging Tmobile beats Sprint. Don’t get me wrong I like Sprint when it comes to plan affordability but please don’t tell me Sprint is on the leading edge. I have been waiting for a worthwhile phone to upgrade to and when finally the 6800 is rumored for May, it gets pushed out to October. If I was in a position to switch trust me, I would.

Ignorance must be bliss! The only phone in “America” that offers WM6 is a “smartphone” (not a ppc) that Cingular has. The HTC phones (ppc’s) that offer leading edge technology are European, Canadian, and Asian phones. Tell me what T Molbile phone or Cingular device offers a 416 mhz Intel processor? None of them! They offer a 400mhz processor. Tell me what carrier is going to be offering a Qualcom 400 mhz processor to run the PDA fucntions, along with a 133 mhz processor (making it a dual core) just to run the phone fucntions. Not even the HTC version has this. Sprint was the first company to develop, launch, and have a wide spread broadband network (EVDO)! Cingular still can’t get 3G all the way off of the ground. Any American phone you have, my 6700 can run laps around it and I have plenty money and data proof to back that up! Even that brick they call an 8525! Research what your saying before you open your big mouth!

Oh yeah, and that thing you call the T Mobile Wing, it has a 201 mhz processor. The same processor that’s in the MDA and the “old” Cingular 8125! Plus, it doesn’t ship with WM6 and it doesn’t even have 3G! It’s on the God awful slow Edge network! I think you just have a fascination with new phones. Just buy a new 6700 and you’ll feel better! Also, smart guy, the 6600 was thee first Pocket PC phone ever on the American market and it was developed by Sprint! Also, the first PPC in America to ship with WM5 and also, don’t forget the the EVDO network was developed by Sprint and they let Verizon use it! You should really educate yourself!

T-Mobile Wing (PPC) ships with WM6

But it is only Edge speed connection (T-Mo doesn’t have 3G or anything fast yet).

It has only the 201mhz processor - essentially the same as the MDA 8125. Battery life is fairly good.

The T-Mobile Dash smartphone also has WM6 now.

The 6800 does sound good - about the only similarities it has to the to the Wing are the size and sliding keyboard and screen (The externals). Processor is different, connection speed is different, battery is better too I think.

The Wing also has pretty low usable memory - maybe too low to run WM6 very well. It does seem acceptable, though.

The truth of the matter is, for 6700 owners, the Wing nor the 8525 are not significant upgrades other than the bluetooth 2.0 and the 2 megapixel camera. It’s sad when other carriers have to have an upgrade to even make something comparable to what Sprint released almost two years ago. Further proving my point that Sprint is a superior cell phone carrier (as far as technolgy) in America!

I just managed to kill my 6700 over the weekend. I was hoping to hold out until something better came out. Any advice on something I can order today? I am currently using Sprint and out of contract. I don’t know if a insurance exchange will extend my contract or not yet. I am willing to move to another carrier, if there is something out there better.

The only phone out there that’s slightly comparable to the 6700 is the Cingular 8525. If there is someway to insure your 6700, I would do that because, if you spend the money on another device, it may not be worth it. The 6800 is coming soon and it will be the fastest phone with the most capabilities when it is released.

I decided to file an insurance claim. It looks like there may be a couple of phones coming out next month to coincide with the release of the Apple iPhone. I figured that it would be worth the copay to get another 6700 and wait it out. The i-mate Ultimate 7150 looks very promising. I am hoping to stay with Sprint however, I can’t with the Ultimate.

Yappersan, I have three friends that are ppc fanatics as I am and they have the Wing. They got their phones with WM5 on it. They have flashed their roms and upgraded their Wings already with custom roms to get WM6 (I even have WM6 on my 6700). But it did not ship with it. Do you have an official T-Mobile website that says it. CNET.com was the same website that said the 6800 was dropping late May.

    Triune,
You don’t have WM6 on your 6700. It doesn’t exist yet. You do have WM5 AKU 3.5 with a WM6 theme installed assuming you really have colonel’s ROM loaded. You might want to check your facts before you go spouting off.

Link to Engadget article that staes the Wing has WM6.

That’s not the rom I have on my phone, that’s the rom I linked this site to. I built my own rom with a kitchen program that allows me to put a WM6 that comes in an HTC custom rom. I suggest YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT BEFORE YOU START SPOUTING OFF! Don’t get upset because you have to wait! Hahahaha!

Also, send me an actual T-Mobile link that says that it has WM6! You keep sending me Engadget and CNET sites. Sites that don’t sell the phone. Send me a T Mobile site that actually sells that phone. I already know you can’t do it, because it isn’t being shipped with WM6! Idiot!

I don’t want to get into the middle of this, but if you go to http://www.t-mobile.com and click on the Wing that comes onto the screen, it says Windows Mobile 6.0.

Send me a link that shows you really have WM6. Even the folks at XDA-Developers say it isn’t available. So prove it.

As for the Wing. Go to the T-Mobile site and hover over the picture of the Wing. It specifically states WM6.

How can I send you link to my own built kitchen? Not possible and I’m not uploading it for people to use. Second of all, I went to the T Mobile website and it doesn’t say WM6, plus, I have three friends of mine that have the device and it was purchased from a T Mobile retail store, with WM5.

As for your kitchen, if it is truely WM6 then bully for you. However, since your not willing to show us some proof then I am not willing to believe.

You don’t have to take my word for it, when it happens, you’ll remember what I’m saying. I’ve spoken to a district manager with Sprint. A person I’ve known for 7 years and he says that it’ll be til Oct. I’ve already gotten the specs on the 6800 and at least in America, there isn’t a phone currently, and there is no talk of another carrier having a phone with the same processor and a couple other unique features. The EVDO Rev A, is simply an upgrade to their current broadband network EVDO. I personally am going to buy the 6800 the soonest I can. I think it is definitely worth the wait for anyone in the market for a ppc!

That’s completely fine. I spent a while building this rom and I’m not sharing it. Believe what you want to, I’m not hear to prove anything to you. You should pick up Colonel’s kitchen and build one, then you’ll see what I went through to build it, then maybe, it’ll be worth it when you do have WM6 and you’ll understand why I’m not willing to share it.

I have cooked my own ROMs. Pretty simply really as most of the work is done for you. I currently use the newest availble release from helmi_c.
