T-Mobile Officially Launches BlackBerry 8800

T-Mobile and RIM have officially announced what we’ve been predicting for some time, that the BlackBerry 8800 is launching Monday, April 23rd on T-Mobile.com and T-Mobiles over the phone salesline. Retail stores will not carry the phone, at least at first. This is more of a business phone, with the upcoming BlackBerry 8300 being more of a consumer phone. The press release does confirm GPS functionality, but no WiFi in the T-Mobile branded 8800, making it the first BlackBerry from T-Mobile to have integrated GPS. It’s a quad-band GSM phone with EDGE, supports most major IM platforms, MP3 and video playback, full QWERTY keyboard, microSD, Bluetooth 2.0, and most importantly the trackball. No word on price, but Cingular’s version runs $499, but after rebates is $299, so expect to pay around that much.

I talked to a T-mobile CSR yesterday and he told me that the phone was going to go for $425….AFTER rebates. Slightly ridiculous if you ask me. I don’t know if that will stand come monday but that is what he said.

Yea, this isn’t Cingular or Sprint…who rape you with insane phone prices. T-Mobile is the cheapest with their devices, $425 is way off…

Well, I guess that 8300 needs to hurry up and get here so I can switch up. I bought an 8800 the first week it was out for Cingular, got it unlocked, and have been using it with the big pink T since that time. Now that T-Mobile has it, a lot more people will have them, and it won’t be as cool. :(
