Massive BlackBerry Outages

RIM’s BlackBerry servers failed at 8 PM tonight, leading to data outages that have affected a large percentage of North American users. Cingular is reporting that BlackBerry devices are unable to send/receive messages, or access data services of any kind in all but 5 states. Other carriers are experiencing similar issues. RIM has no specific estimate as to when their servers will be back online, but have said that the issues are expected to continue "into the morning." There is further concern that when RIM does manage to get back online, that the rush of backlogged messages might overload their system, so they will be reinstating service in small increments.
UPDATE: Looks like RIM got everything back up smoothly. Atleast we didn’t have a Sidekick moment. You know, 3 weeks without data service?

There’s a mail list setup at http://www.c2security.org/mailman/listinfo/bb-outage to notify people of this.
BB-Outage is a mail list for people to notify others if RIM’s service is down in a particular area. if RIM is down in China, US, A particular state, city, etc, for people then post the area to the list so others are notified. It’s probably best to subscribe from an address that’s not associated with your Blackberry since if RIM’s service is down, you won’t get the e-mail anyhow
bb service is up and running in tampa florida now
Darien, SRP failures not included. I’m talking RIM outages lasting more then 1 hour happen at least once a year, IMO. YMMV.
John, awesome, I’ll tell my ppl here! -Jon
It’s 12:15pm eastern and things here in Northern Va are finally back up and working full strength on my BB.
So what happens to the mail I would have received?
Oh Well!
It is quite now. I guess everyone is satisfied with their blackberry, huh….lol.
when did Sidekick have 3 weeks without service?
