LG PRADA phone unboxed

One thing I gotta’ say off the bat is smart. This phone is smart. LG and PRADA are smart. No, it’s not a "smartphone" but it’s made by smart people. Combining an upscale luxury brand, with a new, fun and intuitive device has been done in this case. What I love about the phone is that it’s a phone, it doesn’t try and handle your Exchange email, while syncing your contacts to the moon, and have a ringtone master maker program. It makes calls. Now onto what really matters — how does it make calls? It’s good, not great. The touch-screen takes a little getting used to and sometimes the phone doesn’t recognize your input when you damn well know it should. The menus are really straight forward even for a novice user and placed wonderfully. PRADA’s minimalistic default theme looks extremely sharp on the handset, with the "Apple" theme looking rather good itself. One of the problems to me was not the built quality, but the feel. As soon as I picked it up I thought it was going to be heavy and solid, yet it feels like it’s made of cheap shiny plastic and is very light. At the end of the day if your wearing a tuxedo or dinner gowns to black-tie parties more than once a week, grab the LG PRADA phone. You will be the ones everyone hates. Until the iPhone drops.

I just got one of these a couple of days ago and your initial comments are spot on. It’s not an “iPhone killer” but it will surprise you if you think that it’s just a “cheap” (even though it’s more expensive than an iphone) knock-off. LG/Prada have really put some thought into the interface and with just a few minor issues which you have mentioned, have got a great phone.
The one minor pet peeve of mine is that even though T9 is accurate enough and all I really wish they wouldve given the user an option to use a full qwerty keyboard layout in landscape mode. I’ve seen this picture:

…and having looked through every option on the phon, still havent found it.

I agree with the previous poster…if it had a qwerty option i reckon i’d think about spending the extra bucks on one. A waaay nice looking phone and interface.
Instead i think i’ll go for the new Motorola ROKR E6…not as sexy but does much the same job for half the bucks (and it’s semi-open linux OS opens up customisation/hacks/addons).
Hopefully Prada II (?) will have the qwerty, 3G and wifi…and a nicer price :-).

Hi -
I had heard that the Prada was going to have a new release with Windows Mobile 6.0 - if that is the case it would have to have a QWERTY keyboard as well as perhaps some more cool stuff associated to the touch screen.
Has anyone else heard anything?

I’ve been having this problem on my prada too. I’ve been googling for hours to find an answer and found nothing but posts like this with no response, so i gave in and rang LG support. They said it’s a software problem and advised i take the phone back to get an exchange.
They did first advice that I check under messages > settings > text message. Under that menu, check message type is text.
If it is, you SHOULD just be able to click the options button in the message, go to reply, and it SHOULD bring up TXT and MMS below that.
If it doesn’t, i’d think you have the same problem i do, and would advice you exchange it if you can, or if you can’t, ring LG as they may be able to send you a software update.
.. no, on to copy this message everywhere else i’ve seen this problem! hopefully others on a google mission will then read this and not waste the time i have.
PS.. i otherwise LOVE my LG Prada!
