Samsung SCH-i760 gets FCC Nod
The Samsung SCH-i760 has been approved by the FCC, meaning we will be seeing it hit shelves of a certain CDMA carrier soon. It will provide the Windows Mobile 6 experience, intergrating with your Office programs with ease. The i760 features a 1.3 megapixel camera that will record video, MP3 player, WiFi, a touchscreen with stylus, and a slide out full QWERTY keyboard. No word on pricing yet or release date, but look for it soon.

Everyone by now should know that it was hinted that Verizon would be getting this one.

Why don’t you take your complaining a$$ out and buy a N95?

As great as it may be, why would they put a 1.3 camera in it instead of 3 or 5? When has Samsung ever been afraid of peering over the cutting edge? GPS would be nice too.

My question is why does Samsung (or any smart phone manufacturer) put a camera in a productivity device? In an extremely competitive marketplace many companies will not allow cameras to be brought in (including those in cell phones or PDAs). Take GM, Ford and Chrysler for example, and they are not even producing secret technology! I think that cameras should only be stand-alone phones. Not having a model of this without a camera, Samsung is sure to lose out on a lot of potential customers. I am surprised that these companies do not think about things like this!

I just brought an i760. Its nice. I think Samsung should have put an upgraded camera either a 3 or 5 megapixel and also added GPS. It is GPS ready via a program download. Its quick, small, very lightweight even with the extended battery. Clear large screen. With a 2 year contract, $100 credit from one every two program with Verizon, and a $50 rebate - I paid $150. Very stylish.

>>It is GPS ready via a program download.
Where did you get this program download to make GPS work?

The phone does not have GPS, and there’s no “program to make GPS work”. Verizon has a pay service called vznavigator, so they do not sell phones which have standalone GPS. The only way to have GPS on a VZW phone without paying either a monthly or a daily fee is to use a Bluetooth GPS receiver on a smartphone or a pocket PC.

Just making sure the horse is not gonna be up again..
Verizon Sales guy mentioned about GPS being disabled but there is chip in it???

BTW, saw a site that says it has “Type-A GPS” on it’s spec.
Anyone knows what “Type-A GPS” means?
Thanks,

Type A GPS means it is assisted by the network, not a true standalone GPS. This is a workaround so Verizon can charge for their stupid VZNavigator program instead of letting us use Google maps for free.
The older phones all had ways to get into the system and use the GPS, but it took a few minutes. I wouldn’t be surprised *cough* if someone wrote a program for the windows mobile os to make use of the onboard ACTIVE gps software.

So was the *caugh* to let us know that you wrote the software? If so, my email is mikeysab1@aol.com.
