I’ve already run such a rig with wireless cams… for $1100 I’d rather pay 600 to setup and save the $500

Look, that’s about $1000 too much money. Go to ebay and buy a Panasonic BL-C1A, or better yet search for: Panasonic network camera, title only.

They can be programmed to email photos when there’s a “trigger” (motion / timer). Not video, but much more feasible then $1,100 for those who don’t have cash to burn.

I have a BlackBerry and can check the current image on my cameras @ home VERY easily. I have multiple cameras, and paid WAY less than $1,100.

First, please understand that this $1,100 is incorrect. This figure is the average cost per camera of a sophisticated DVR system fully installed with a site-survey, design, cabling, install, verification, training and tuning. Many business owners and high-end homes need a security system that are wired (wireless cameras are not secure unless they are IP cameras), records only motion, have night vision, etc. Seeing the cameras live on a PDA is just one small benefit. The industry average for a full-service install is closer to $11,000 for 10 cameras in a business or high-end home.

Secondly, EYESthere often replaces these cheap do-it-yourself cameras and inexpensive DVRs since they cannot be tuned for high optic quality, high frames per second per camera, at least 30 days of high quality footage, and motion only recording reliability. Most EYESthere installs are with businesses and high-end homes since this level of sophistication and reliability is not necessary for someone who just wants to see their web-cam on a PDA. For those interested in an industrial solution and want to hear from customers who use these systems as a daily business tool and see great value in a $4,400 four camera system, visit http://www.EYESthere.com. The other writers are correct that if you just want to see a camera on your PDA, just visit Frys or do a google search for a web-cam. :)
