Verizon Goes Unlimited with SMS, MMS, and VCast

Starting April 15th, traditionally tax day for all you waiting till the last minute, Verizon is scheduled to launch unlimited plans for their data services. Included are text messages, picture messages, and VCast. The plans are expected to be at a $20 premium for single lines, and family plans will start at around $100 for these unlimited services with 700 included minutes. T-Mobile Sidekick users are used to the $20 premium for unlimited messaging, and BlackBerry users often pay even more for such features. Will Verizon be able to convince enough people that it’s worth the extra $20 per month? Guess that depends on how much you text.

Tax day is the 17th this year due to the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington DC.

This may come in handy… my wife goes through text messages like a hot knife through butter thanks to Yahoo IM, and i can rack them up sometimes myself.

Right, that’s why Nick wrote “traditionally tax day” implying that was the regular date…

Funny how three out of the four comments are regarding his tax day comment, and only one about the actual plan.

BGR, I used this story on my blog. Gave credit to you. http://mytechnews.net/2007/04/verizon-to-introduce-unlimited-texting.html

How about international text messages? Are they free too?
    Thanks.

Well… it’s about time, Big Red.

That said, I really doubt that international texting is going to be free. Verizon is still a corporation, and they’re still focused on making money, and they can make money charging extra for text messages that go into other countries.

Yep…the old package of $20 for unlimited IN messaging and 5000 outside the network, along with $15 for unlimited VCast looks pretty weak compared to this. Hope it lasts and takes off!

You can always use AIM to send text messages. Just use the phone number as the person’s username (+15556669875). Or use Verizon’s website to send a text.
