BlackBerry AIM, Live Messenger, and ICQ clients released

We’ve been yelling for it for a while now, and it looks as if RIM might be on track to release these clients very soon. You’re able to download the actual software now, but as the case with the Yahoo IM! and GoogleTalk clients, they are service book dependant and as of now, no carrier has started rolling out these IM service books. Browse to the links below from your BlackBerry to start downloading the software!
AIM: http://www.blackberry.com/aim
Windows Live Messenger: http://www.blackberry.com/livemessenger
ICQ: http://www.blackberry.com/icq

UPDATE: Click here to download a .zip file with the correct service books, you will need to erase your current service books, and restore it with this file.

Why doesn’t it work for Verizon blackberry 8830??
Has anyone found the ALX/COD files for AIM? I’m also a verizon user and can’t download the file directly on my device. Also another request – does anyone have the Service Book entry details for AIM on verizon? I’m using the BB 8830. I know this can work, it’s just a matter of getting the right files and settings.
Hey guys,
i got my RIM BB 8300 today and i LOVE it. I was using sidekick for 2 years but i got pissed cuz of the missing updates for the messenger clients, poor catalogue features and lame alsoways down connection. Well anyway my bb is from tmob GERMANY, and as i said im having a bb for the first time & just getting into it. now my q is if the downloads of msn & aim are also for the german software?? getting the software and the service books sounds to be a pain action so i thought i might ask if its working at all be4 i try and end up in tears
According to AOL:
http://mobile.aol.com/mobileaim/devices/blackberry
“Currently only available on the following Sprint Nextel Blackberry devices: 7130e, 8703e, 7100i, 7520, 8830.”
I had a Nextel 7100i up until last night, now have Verizon 8830, so I can’t try it.
I am looking into buying the 8703e from Verizon. I love everything about the phone and when I went into a store to talk to them today I got the dumbest man alive. Honestly should not of been allowed to work there. I want an AIM application on my phone and I’ve been looking stuff up but there a few different programs but I dont know if they will work on my particular model and I was wondering if anyone with this same phone and service could help. Would it be best to use beejive, ramble, blackberry.com/AIM, or that other site Cliff mentioned ebuddy.com/mobile? Any information would be appreciated!!
I’ve got an 8300/Curve – where can I get a decent AIM client? I’ve tried going to http://blackberry.com/aim from my Blackberry, but I get a weird error page telling me that the page works only in Internet Explorer. ?
I have the Blackberry Curve with ATT&T as well. I’m using the Ramble program and so far, its worked.
Verizon strikes again!! I just purchased the BB 8830 from them. Phone is amazing, but I have not been able to dowmload/install AIM from the BB website. Appatently Verizon in their ultimate wisdom have decided not to support AIM on this phone. Any advice on the subjlect would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
i just purchased BB 8300/Curve (on AT&T/Cingular) for cheap, its my first qwerty phone, but i really need AIM to work. someone please show me the route… im new to this.
ramble worked fine for me on my blackberry pearl from T-Mobile.
all i had to do was change my TCP. the APN has to be wap.voicestream.com not username or password.
Confirmed working again 09/25/2007 on T-Mobile!!! Download the service books > and loads the apps via the desktop tool > then in your advanced options register the service books again. Works like a charm!
i love this website!
Hi I wanna get the 8830 but only if I can get AIM – can u pls help me w/ this ramble business?
my email is gnsladies@gmail.com – thanx!
do we get charged per IM ?? i think verizon allows us 5000 messages on the unlimited package – or are we BEATING the system by d/ling this program – some1 help!!
just download the ramble software from your black berry phone and it will download
verizon will not charge you per IM- it is being used as data usage, not as a text… just as if you were using blackberry messenger or google chat.
Ramble Sucks. Never can connect when you need it to.
Ramble works fine for me… The only thing is you cant see when people have their AWAY message up, you can only see when people are IDLE. other than that, it works good..
I have Ramble on my blackberry 8703e. It works ok when it is on, but it continuously disconnects and needs to be reconnected. Any help?
ooops i try those link about live messenger for blackberry with my handheld but doesnt work. it says HTTP 400 Internal Server Error. Is anyone knows another download link ? My Operator is Turkcell
Serhat,
Which program are you trying to get to work? I haven’t tried Live Messenger, but have tried Ramble and JiveTalk.
I didn’t like Ramble that much, because it doesn’t have the functionality of the other program, JiveTalk, from http://www.beejive.com. I’ve been using JiveTalk and it’s worked best of the programs i have tried.
I can connect to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, ICQ, and Jabber…I tend to use AIM, MSN and Yahoo, because my friends don’t use the other clients as much.
Try those 2 programs out…if the one you’re getting the 400 Internal Server Error – I’m not too sure on what would cause that…I’m a Techy, but not that knowledgeable.
Ramble is free – it works okay. JiveTalk is $19.99 USD for a 1 Device License, but it has a 30-day Trial Period. Hopefully I was some help.
What kind of phone do you have? Which program were you trying?

hey i jut bought a slidekick slide and was wondering how to get windows live messenger on it …. ?
any help ?
Try EQO. It works for all IM programs and is free. Much more reliable than Ramble as well.
so i have a quick and simple question. so i have a BB 8320 and its wifi so i didnt get the data plan aka email and unlimited internet. like rite now i am currently connected via wifi and i am trying to access my AIM. so my question is can i access aim without having the data plan and does this apply to all blackberries, bc when i try to login it says the same thing as it does for everyone else
“Please visit http://www.blackberry.com/aom to activate ur handheld for AIM”
bc when i had my old flip fone i was able to sign onto aim without having any problems or an internet plan. so i was just wondering why is it more complicated with this smart fone and access aim when the stand fones accessed aim just fine without data
ok i hope im making sense, but please get back to me
