BlackBerry AIM, Live Messenger, and ICQ clients released

We’ve been yelling for it for a while now, and it looks as if RIM might be on track to release these clients very soon. You’re able to download the actual software now, but as the case with the Yahoo IM! and GoogleTalk clients, they are service book dependant and as of now, no carrier has started rolling out these IM service books. Browse to the links below from your BlackBerry to start downloading the software!

AIM: http://www.blackberry.com/aim

Windows Live Messenger: http://www.blackberry.com/livemessenger

ICQ: http://www.blackberry.com/icq

[Via BlackBerryForums]

UPDATE: Click here to download a .zip file with the correct service books, you will need to erase your current service books, and restore it with this file.

I have the same problem. Error message: “CONNECTION ERROR (65) PROBLEM RECEIVING DATA FROM THE SERVER”

I wonder if it relates to the firewall, but I have a little red lock which prevents me changing that option….

I have team mobile and I set my TCP settings to
    wap.voicestream.com
    my number and area code
    and my password from http://www.t-mobile.com

it did’nt work for me but I would get to 80% and stop at receiving budddies

funny thing is , is when I was already signed on AIM on my computer, at 20% it would send a pop up on my PC saying I was signed in at 2 locations and alll my ims from that point would appear on screen, but only go into my message box all jumbled with HTML codes and junk I could not understand and the messages mixed in and cut up

all the while the AIM screen would say “error in connecrtion data something like that”

i had to call team mobile and tell them to activate the data stream on wap.voicestream.com on my nuyiber

i got my blackberry 7100t from a freind for free and put mysim card in and went from there i just got into it AFTER t-mobile decided to open the ports

if they werent past that point yet i wouldve been anthor person crying for them to open it so i can have a fully functional blackberry

I just purchased a BlackBerry at a Verizon Wireless Store. It’s great….I can get my E-mails, Texting, Internet (not quite like a computer, but hey…what do I expect?) and of course I can talk on it like a phone. Ha. I expected to be able to install AIM on it so I don’t have to carry my 10″ Sony around Everywhere. I went to the site to download it from BlackBerry and it said that my ISP doesn’t support it. I have Verizon. Is there a way to get AIM on my Verizon BlackBerry 8703e? I thought to ask before I look like an idiot at the Verizon Store. Thanks!!

Verizon does not allow the blackberry to download the messenger on http://www.blackberry.com/aim like other services do… hence his question.

    Where can one find ramble?

I’m the 2nd Justin in this thread; the recent Verizon BlackBerry purchaser. I love it so far. I’m continuing to learn about Smart Phones and getting familiar with communicating through to others. I have my GMail account, which I use as my main E-mail account, I have a sweet “unlimited” (up to 5 GB/month) Data Plan, Internet, Texting, Calendar….and finally a phone. There are plenty more, but I’m sure everyone on here knows.

I wanted to let everyone know that I found RAMBLE!! WOOT! I [verb] Googled it and it was the first entry. I guess there are a couple ways to install it; either through the computer and directly to the BlackBerry. I chose to download it directly to the device through their download site.

    Ramble

Take a look and I JUST downloaded it. It says it isn’t supposed to “replace” the AIM client, but adds the functionality to BlackBerry’s that can’t Install the Real AIM from AOL. So HA VERIZON!!! I found a way to get my IM on my BlackBerry!!!

    Justin M says:

—-Alvi, I have Ramble installed on my 8703e from Verizon, because I couldn’t get the “real” AIM from AOL; Verizon loves to block that kind of functionality and that’s why I bought it…sort of. Ramble works okay for me; I haven’t had the logging in getting stuck like that in Ramble, but I do get that while logging onto another IM program for the BlackBerry called JiveTalk.

JiveTalk is awesome for the most part; it has WAY more functionality when compared to Ramble; but Ramble is free, which comes in handy. With JiveTalk you get more features that resemble using GAIM (now called Pidgin), because you can sign on AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, ICQ, and Jabber. I’ve only signed onto my AIM, because that’s where most of my friends are and have had only a few hiccups.

Okay, the program is verrrry cool, but costs $19.99 for the (1) Device License, $29.99 for the User License (so you can be able to transfer JiveTalk to another device), and another choice for Mulituser (for businesses with alot of people installing on their BlackBerrys), also $29.99.

All the details are on their site at http://www.beejive.com

You can try it for 30 days and I downloaded it directly to my BlackBerry, because it was the easiest (and also I haven’t yet installed my BlackBerry Software into my laptop to Sync it up). I downloaded it yesterday, Friday and have been messing around with it and for the most part I’ve been really happy. It works almost like I’m on a PC, which that’s what I wanted.

The only thing that I’ve had a problem with is signing on. It’s the same thing that’s happening to you in Ramble. What I have to do is FORCE QUIT the program after I save my sign on name. Once I have it my log in name and password saved, I sign on…it SHOULD sign on. If you have the lagging logging in…..force quit and start it up again. That’s the only problem I’ve been having and I’ll have another problem when I pay…..because it isn’t free. Ha.

I would rather pay $20.00 or $30.00 to have more functionality and features, because I’d rather have the convenience and options so I can do more things while being mobile with my BlackBerry. Like I said in an earlier post (just scroll a bit up), I carry my 10″ Sony VAIO with my Verizon REV A card to be online and on AIM when I’m on the road.

I love my BlackBerry and really enjoy being able to do things while not tied to a computer, but you know what…..I still carry my laptop, ha.

If you have any questions or comments for me write it on here. I’ll be sure to respond when I can. I signed up for E-mail updates whenever someone comments on here, yeah I’m nerdy like that. Or you could always Myspace me- I check it few times a day.

That’s weird. I would think it’d work. Hmm. Maybe it’s not compatible with that operating system? Were you able to load it on there? Or does it not work; sign in, chat….all that jazz?

How’s the 8830? Do you like it? I’m gettting used to this BlackBerry stuff, because this is my first one. Good thing I didn’t get a Treo…I would be using the stylus all the time like my iPAQ 5555.

Let me know how that goes with the 8830….so do you have two phone numbers? Is the other 8830 with Verizon or with another carrier?

Talk to you soon on here!

Ya… loaded, just wouldn’t log on. Same problem as I saw earlier in the post. Like the 8830 (on VZW – I think it’s only offered there so far).. +s: spell check, media and media card, size, look etc, roller mouse (altho have to get used to it after years with the wheel), voice command and more. -s: keys hard for me to see (letters) in dark. But happy with the device. Just downloaded JiveTalk, looks like it loads and runs fine…

Brian– Interesting. I wouldn’t mind a media card slot so i can load some Podcasts to listen on the run without having to carry my iPod.

Hey I have a 8830 and am having the same exact problems with the verizon carrier. Ramble is a no go. BUT I found this: (which i haven’t seen mentioned)

    http://www.ebuddy.com/mobile/

Point your blackberry to that and login! It’s web based, but its free! At least for us poor people its a free nonfeature alternative :(

    enjoy

I mean, AIM ships with most FREE phones for the major carriers. Wouldn’t it be logical to get it out for the people with 400 dollar BBs who are paying 40 dollars extra a month?
