T-Mobile BlackBerry 8800 Launching April 23rd?

The rumor mill is bubbling with information as we have received a large number of tips stating that the T-Mobile BlackBerry 8800 will be launching on Monday, April 23rd. Some have said this would be a business-channel launch, and some have indicated otherwise. As always you can count on us working to confirm this intel, so take this as you will.

Also there was no specification on whether this was the BlackBerry 8800, or BlackBerry 8820. Go figure.

Thanks, to everyone that tipped us!

I’m guessing that it’s a result of the image editing but doesn’t that T-mobile logo look a bit too large?

This gets more confusing by the minute,
An army of asses led by a lion is vastly superior to an army of lions led by an ass
Boy Genius, can you tell us what the differences are between the 8800 and the 8320?
Why cant we order CTO like computers Custom to Order, pay for what you want, call it in, order it, pay for it, they build it to your specs and voila, Merry Christmas or Happy Hannukah, that way everyone is happy

Boy Genius, perhaps you could ask your connections why RIM continues to do stupid things like brand each flavor of blackberry to carrier. Why can’t they just have the 8700 line and the 8800 line and the 8300 line, instead of their naming scheme with letters at the end as well. Honestly, a 7100t, 7100g, 7100i, 7130e

We do know for sure what OS version is will be using, v4.2.1.74. Go to the BlackBerry developer website and the T-Mobile simulator is already available for download. Actually, it has been available for almost a week.

I’m also wondering if the 8300 is still slated for the May 7th. targeted release date, at T-Mobile? I would love the camera and wi-fi (wlan)!

I received confirmation from T-Mobile’s customer care that the 8800 will be rolling out on April 23rd, but they had no info yet on the 8300 or 8320. Makes me concerned that the May 7th date is not correct. Here is the pertinent part of the email I received from Customer Care:

“Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile customer care. My name is Matthew and I will be happy to help you out today.

I understand from your email that you would like to know if we will offer the Blackberry 8800 or the 8320 in the future as you are eager to replace your lost Blackberry with one of these models. I know how exciting state of the art equipment can be Brian and I can definitely look into this for you today. I am sorry to hear that your handset has been lost.

I am pleased to let you know that while I have no information on the 8320, the 8800 will be launching to all customers on April 23rd, although it may not necessarily be available in-store on this date (it will be available through Customer Care). I do not have a price for this device at this time but you will be able to review the price once it launches. I appreciate your understanding in this matter.”

OK … First, what is the difference between the 8800 and the 8300?? I read that the 8800 is aimed at the “business class” and the 8300 is aimed at consumers. But I do not see much difference between the two devices once you add camera, WiFi, and GPS to both.

Second, PLEASE tell me that T-Mobile is going to release the 83xx (Papa Bear variety) and not the plain vanila 8300 (Baby Bear)?? It would REALLY be disappointing to have to choose between having a camera, WiFi, AND GPS in the smaller and easier to use 8300 series and the 8800’s offering of GPS. I am likely to switch carriers just to get the 83xx rather than compromise on the device itself.

Not really, we don’t use these devices to listen to music… but why no 3G?

My Rep told me the 8300 won’t release until Q3 (that could be as early as June); which makes sense, since RIM would want to have a NEW product out at about the same time the iPhone is released.

Just talked to T Mobile Customer Care yesterday and confirmed that the Blackberry 8800 will be avaliable on Monday, April 23, BUT ONLY through the Customer Care Line. I was informed that with a 2 year contract the price would be $428 and with a one year contract it would be $478. If those prices are true then it must be the top of the line phone in EVERY aspect, which it looks like it… We’ll see on Monday! (I also checked on pre-orders, no dice. Earliest orders will be processed on Monday the 23rd.)

    Thanks and good luck,
    Travis

    EDIT:
I just received an e-mail from T-Mobile reps and here is what is said:

“Great news, Travis!!! The BlackBerry 8800 will be available on April
23rd. It is being offered exclusively online for upgrading. To purchase
the new handset, please log into myt-mobile.com on April 23rd to
upgrade. The current pricing that I am showing is: 2-year contract
$349.99 or 1-year contract $399.99. The pricing may vary once you log in
to upgrade as you may be eligible for discounts.”

As I have talked to Customer Care Reps, it will be available through the Customer Care line as well….

I just called tMobile and ordered the 8800 for US. Price for upgrade for existing customers was $469, but I talked them into the web site price of $349 (don’t get what you dont ask for). The tMobile web site under featurs did not list whether GPS was available or not. Assume it is included. Should have it in my hands in 3 days!.. bout time.

Ordered mine today as well for $349, although I will likely return the phone if I can get an idea when the 8320 will be made available before my 14 day return right expires. I read a report from an industry analyst who thinks the 8320 will be out this spring and likely carried by T-mobile. Hopefully it’s coming sometime in May.

My contract expires in October and I have no upgrade price! Just $549 no contract extension. I planned on using it for the 14 day trial period and hopefully on that 14th day return it for the 8320 should it be launched May 7th. Oh well…

I received the 8800 today and it does have GPS. I only wanted the phone if it had GPS, so I called several times to customer care and went to two stores to find out, and each time I was told something different. But I got it today, and it does have it.

Another good example of T-mobile service is my purchase of the 8800. I order it on Monday and am told it will be shipped by three-day shipping. I was pleasantly surprised to come home from work on Tuesday to find the phone already there.

Really like the look of the phone in person. The black and sillver on the phone is definitely much glossier/shinier than it appears in pictures. Phone feels very solid and well made. Keyboard is a bit difficult to use, given the closeness of the buttons, but I think I can get used to it. So far no regrets for the purchse, but still wish it had a camera…
