Verizon BlackBerry 8830 press shots are leaked, and there is no product announcement…anyone thinking along my lines, that this was a "marketing move" by RIM to generate up some hype for their first CDMA/GSM world phone? Take a look at the shots below, matter of fact don’t. I’m sure RIM will be announcing/leaking some more info soon.

The 8830 looks like the 8800 and will pack a QVGA screen, microSD slot, and 3G EV-DO support. The bad news (to me at least) is that there’s no camera. So it doesn’t look like it’ll be big on media, but it’s still a nice grab for Verizon. – Louis Ramirez

I wonder what’s on this one? Wi-Fi? GPS? Camera? It seems like they’re saving the cameras for the 8300 series though.
Totally peeves me off, i had to switch fron Verizon to Cingular due to the need of world phone and BB. So now Verizon gets with the program, just great. LOL I hate the reception quality with Cingular and had great call quality with Verizon. Go figure…

Of course the 8830 doesn’t have a camera. The cameras are on the 83XX series.
No, I just think it’s ridiculous to base the release date by what’s on the display of a press shot device. But hey, what do I know?
Buddy of mine who works for verizon said the “cyclone” will be released in July.
So will Verizon have their own SIM cards like Sprint does for their world phones? Or will it be a Vodafone SIM?
As great as this sounds I’m with the group that won’t be buying one because it doesn’t have wifi or a camera…

For me it would’ve taken a camera to mitigate the less-than-stellar keyboard on this one. Next.
Verizon was smart to leave off the camera this round. Until this BB comes out Verizon can’t compete for the big global companies because overseas is still GSM. Most of the companies I know of refuse to purchase cameraberrys because of the liability of what could end up logged on the bes servers. So if they did come out with the camera version first they would risk losing the big global accounts they want because of it. Lets face it BBs are not really intended for the individual, thats why when you start it up the very first icon is “enterprise” activation. Besides what company that needs pictures taken would settle for the quality of a 2mpix camera anyway?
The Wifi would be a nice feature – the camera i can do without. I have a BB Pearl and the camera is never used. Plus the picture quality sucks anyway.
It’s about time. This is the one I’ve been waiting for. Among other things, it has 3G EV-DO, microSD slot, QVGA sceen.
Since I already have a Nikon digital camera, will not miss the lack of a camera on this baby at all.

Has anyone heard anything about data plans for overseas use? Will roaming $$$ apply and will “always on” mean thousand dollar roaming charges?

WiFi is not needed when your using a mobile browser. Enh camera is never needed.

Didn’t I hear that VZW and Sprint would have the same launch date for the worldphone? Could this be a potential “soon” Sprint option?
Pictures? They are drawings from Illustrator or the like. Note the gradiant fills on the back and the shine on the keypad. Not saying it’s not coming out, just saying they aren’t photograph pictures.
Welp, I thanQ for the pics and the update, but for me, I’m using a used 8703e and until the 83xx comes out VZW’s way, I’ll hold off. I tried the 8800 via Cingular, and while I liked it I wasn’t thrilled. The pearl/ball is a huge improvement over the clickwheel, but I actually prefer the size/thickness of the 87xx vs. the 88xx. Plus the keyboard on the 87xx feels a bit easier to use. The 83xx, when/if it appears for VZW, should be my ideal: I’d like a (crappy) camera, Wi-Fi and GPS (yep, I know WiFi will be included in VZW’s 8830) and I also know that if GPS is included in the 83xx, VZW may/will likely disable it. But I still would prefer the form factor and the size of the 83xx, assuming it’s a bit thinner than the 88xx.
One thing to keep in mind is the 88xx, to me, appears to be a corporate model, whereas the 83xx looks to be more of a personal/individual product (like the Pearl). So long as the 83xx (whenever it comes out) has better call quality than the 87xx (I’d assume it will, no matter which carrier offers it first) I’ll get in line.
I’m just hoping that it won’t be Christmas by the time VZW — if at all — releases it.
