News Corp and NBC poised for imminent launch of YouTube killer

NBC and Newscorp are throwing their hats into the online video world, joining forces to launch a service that will focus on providing original network television and movie content for third party sites. Poised to go live as soon as this summer, both companies announced this exciting new venture during a joint conference call last Thursday. NBC and News Corp are the only confirmed contributors, with Viacom and Sony being rumored as possible participants. Deals are already in the works with Yahoo, Microsoft, AOL, and MySpace, giving this probable offering an immediate jump on YouTube’s limited content distribution model. With YouTube’s recent legal troubles, the existence of an online video provider with access to fully licensed content seems to pose a huge risk to the current market leader. Stay tuned in the next few days for more updates.
