Samsung BlackJack ROM upgrade available
Samsung has delivered a ROM update for the Cingular BlackJack. Something that sure won’t make you jump out of your seats but probably worth taking a look at. The new software doesn’t provide any revolutionary updates, but does address certain cell radio issues when roaming off of Cingy’s network like international roaming, as well as providing some attractive new application icons. The good news is that it’s free and currently available for download over at Samsung’s site. Make sure to do a full backup before performing the upgrade, just like with any other ROM updates because this will completely wipe your device.
The update also rebrands the phone slightly to at&t where it used to say Cingular on startup. And it also replaces the jack logo on the home screen with the at&t globe.
Any information if Samsung will offer a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade to the BlackJack?
Disclaimer: I don’t work for at&t or Samsung. My only involvement with them is that I happen to own the device.
As far as I know, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that a WM6 upgrade is in the cards for this device. I suggest you contact at&t and/or Samsung and let them know you want an upgrade.

Here is the latest information regarding windows mobile 6.0 and the BlackJack. Samsung and Microsoft are submitting 6.0 software version to Cingular on May 26th. At that time Cingular has 8 weeks to review the OS and give approval. Given the approval all BlackJack from late July time frame going forward will come from the factory with the new 6.0 OS. Also at that time there will be a download for existing BlackJack users who want to upgrade via an Cingular/AT&T hosted website. So yes , given Cingular approval the BlackJack will support windows 6.0 OS.

I have read this article and am interested in uypdating my phone with the new firmware. My phone was purchased in the original lot of Blackjacks in mid-November of last year. I have not yet be able to find the file:
SGH_i607_GB4_Rebranding_EMR.exe
I have only been given the run around from Samsung and also AT&T. They pass me back an forth to dead ends for this update. Can anyone provide a direct link to this file?

As you are a staffer of Samsung, can you PLEASE help us answer the question at hand. How do we get the “SGH_i607_GB4_Rebranding_EMR.exe” file. I am a user who who is perpetually overseas and can report that indeed the intl. roaming is awful. My Sony and Moto 3G phones work vastly better. So I am quite eager to get the ‘fix.’
I’m just a blackjack user, but I did the update, you download the files from samsung, them open them and sync them to the phone. You can’t do the download directly to the phone. I’m not sure if thats what the problem is or not.

Thank you for the link but I as well as others are stuck on STEP 5. I have set up everything step by step as the instructions show but I’m unable to locate the rebranding exe.

I’m confused, when you download from the site, you download two zip file, one is just instructions, the other has the exe. file, you have to open the zip on the pc, then run it. Maybe redownload the zip?
The second zip is in the first, not sure why they did it that way, unzip the file from that link and you get :

The link you supplied I have already found but cannot find the 53MB file for download. Within the page you sent it says to go to the Blackjack page and then select software. This just jumps me back to the main page.
I was able to find the modem driver but the proper location for downloading the 53MB file still illudes me.
Its in the original zip file you downloaded…
You down load a .zip file you unzip it, it has another .zip file in it, you unzip that, there is the .exe

Deva, could you provide a direct link to the .zip file you are refering to. The only download I have found on that link you originally gave is for the Blackjack Modem Driver. I have unzipped it and installed the modem driver, but there were no other .zip files contained withing that .zip file.
Nevermind. After an hour of frustration, I finally figured out that I was not getting the download because of the built-in pop-up blocker in InternetExplorer7.
I have been unsuccessful in downloading this file, using IE7, Firefox, and Safari on both Windows XP and Vista. I have no clue why it won’t let me download, but a direct link would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
Every time I try to run the the updater i get a binary error and nothing.
I finally managed to get the updater… I ended up running Windows ME through VMWare Workstation without any firewalls or popup blockers. It works great; I’ve been messing as much as I can with my phone now without any hesitation because I can always return it to the way it was.

I have been also following all the steps to download this up-date for roaming but i did not find the SGH_i607_GB4_Rebranding_EMR.exe file on my pc to run this up-date. could you please send or tell where this file is download in the installation. The site clearly says that the upgrade will not work with Vista, does that mean if I applied the firmware upgrade from another XP computer, the phone would not be able to connect to my Vista PC?
Yeah that darn pop up blocker got in the way. They mean it. You cannot download the final file without turning off the pop up blocker on your system.
